This. OpenSpades a shit.
Seriously though, the way it stands now the community as a whole is just way too fragmented and there aren't enough people who are actively involved/invested to care. I think most of us (myself included) are growing up a bit and maybe growing a bit tired of the game. It's taken a serious departure from having several active servers at any given time. Now the majority of the list is consistently empty servers.
Doesn't help when we have stuff like Arena mopping up most of the player-base, because playing a huge, griefed map 1 on 1 with a friend just isn't much fun at all. All in all, I think the light has faded a little. I think the focus now should be on preservation of historical client/server releases as well as maps. We had a good thing going, and it's possible that we might even make a comeback come winter or summer break, but until then, I think we ought to be cautious.
BnS is almost dead. Except for the "lounge" and "other games" sections (interesting, how everything else is dead, but these ones aren't) and sometimes a post in the clan or weapon modding section, there's rarely anyone posting anything anywhere. I noticed that the player count, however, is partly encreasing (I suppose this is because winter makes people stick more to their PCs), so we basically don't have this game "organization" by BnS, and all this is instead becoming a pile of random casual players playing on another pile of random servers.
There's a point in just decreasing the server count, so we have few but populated servers instead of 90 empty ones (no exageration). Maybe just one single server for each existing game mode, and then add one more similar server if one is full all the time. This would highlight special servers and gamemodes, and stuff would be different.
It's a similar problem with arena and hallway. Most people think that just because a bunch of 12 years old brasilian kids, which happened to become the majority, likes to play arena on hallway, we should all support it. They probably don't even like it themselves. And this is very sad, since it's just bullshit to turn a game into mainstream and give up the differences to mainstream FPS, only to keep some noobs who aren't fun to play with anyways. There are enough people here who would play a game similar to the old AoS, and these guys are leaving.
But again, no one has control over the servers. And the ones who have control over the master server would never abuse it (not that it should be done, it would be too radical).
OpenSpades is like AoS 0.75/0.76 with some decoration shit on it. The core is broken in the same way.
