Found this on some forum:

"According to IGN, "The SRR-61 is a US made Sniper Rifle. The real life counterpart is the CheyTac M200 Intervention. It fires the .408 CT cartridge." (This is only partially true, because the M200 can also fire the .375 cartridge.)

This would indicate that the name was made up for BF4. However, the CheyTac M200 Intervention is also the same rifle used by the 61st Special Reconaissance Regiment in Jordan (hence the SRR-61 designation).

The first quote is per IGN, the second quote is per CheyTac. Whether EA couldn't get the rights to use M200 or CheyTac or just wanted to use something more original since CoD used it, it is a moot point. It's really no different than why they called one rifle "FY-JS" instead of "CS/LR3" or "JS 7.62", which are the real names for that rifle. I'm sure there are other guns in the game that are mislabeled, not just these two."

Basically there is no other variant, they just used the name of a Reconnaissance Regiment to get an easy fake name for the gun, without having to get the rights to use the actual gun's name.

StG.77 is Austriac designation of the AUG family, just like M16(and derivatives) is the official designation by US Armed Forces of a(slightly modified) AR-15.

i am aware of all that but it's easier to associate AUG with AUG. anything that has StG i normally associate it with the StG44
