I ll still play my games of the year 2002 or even older, no need to buy some too much advertised games.
Borderlands 2 got 52 game of the year awards so they release a version of the game called game of the year edition which has tones of DLC, which is why it's called 'GOTY edition'.

I think every major site indicates a single game of the year based on their score and reviews. Not quite an award, but an indication really. I don't think there is a single GOTY award, tho.
