You have no reason to skip this series. First watch the original Neon Genesis Evangelion, then the movies for the old.
Then you have to watch the re-imagination of the series in the form of films renamed Evangelion 1.0, Evangelion 2.0 etc.

TL;DR Watch it.

Not really a long post at all. It would be nice if you put a description (and preferably a picture) along with each one (similar to my post), as there are a lot of them there that I've never heard of, meaning it'd take just as long to find out about them as it would have if you didn't post.
Props for Elfen Lied though - I forgot about that anime.
