Random trail of thought, could we somehow contact Ben Askoy and Mat^2 and the other devs (I have no idea of their names, I joined about a fortnight before Jagex brought the rights to AoS) get together, and start working on the game again? They have the rights to Voxlap (Jagex doesn't support this in 1.0) and they'd have the source code somewhere (I hope). And hey, Jagex's game is nothing like the ours, we can just rename ours to "Build And Shoot" and start working on it again, as long as they don't go to OpenGL, or make their version too close to 1.0, they can safely keep this game updated without Jagex calling shenanigans.
Unless there's a legal hitch that I don't know of, this is a totally flawless master-plan that has exactly no chance of backfiring whatsoever! /parcialsarcasm
...There's a legal hitch... isn't there?
Could we get the devs back?

Look at all the threads elsewhere, this has been discussed. The both have done some work for Jagex and signed non-disclosure agreements. I suspect Ben at least is a bit burnt out over the whole Jagex fiasco. Place your hopes in the projects started here already.

OMG, WHY DIDN'T WE THINK OF THIS?!? THIS IS GENIUS!!!
...
People just can't seem to be able to read. Seriously, there's a search function for a reason. There's even a whole thread just about Ben: http://www.buildandshoot.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=666
Also, yes, Iceball (which Greasemonkey linked to) is this community's answer to such a need.
And why the hell would we need to not use OpenGL? Just because Jagex have used a specific (widely used) technology, it doesn't mean no similar games can use it.

Keep in mind people play this because they don't have the money for good video cards, or they flat out don't know how to use a PC proffesionally. OpenGl would ruin the whole point of AoS or iceball of its simple graphics.

Using a computer "professionally" would actually be, um, let's just say Microsoft Word. (Even though you really should get used to LibreOffice.)
In terms of "professional" programming however, uh, fuck Windows? I swear that shit's designed to make you think that you have to be a god to program.
One thing I need to do for Iceball is split the rendering code into more files, and then stuff them into "modules". This would make room for a possible OpenGL renderer, for those who can handle it. (Admittedly, the current renderer isn't all that fast.)

If you'd like to speed it up, feel free to contribute patches.
