Finland has a better education system than Sweden, despite scourning homework, competition, & having literally only one standardized test at age 16. Don't get me started with the "homogenous" excuse, Norway uses an American form of education and simply gets mediocre results like America. Also, Finland is comparable with a US state, allowing for education to be state-managed.

I actually think that in smaller States, a direct-representation democratic system would work very, very well, specially with the advent of the internet. Heck, some time ago Iceland made a fucking Constitution with feedback and input from the Internet, it wasn't approved because of the Parliament. A GitHub-ish platform, but with laws instead of code would be very interesting in the process of law-making, even if it is just for the members of the Legislative branch of the government check on what people are interested in.
