But all of these things are in battlefield. Before we throw ideas around we need to find out what the OVERALL community and developers think we should do. If the community doesn't want this to be battlefield with blocks you just wasted 5 minutes of your life.

so this topic is basically: 'turn aos into bf'
Not really, BF just has alot of the things we are looking for in what AoS should be I guess.

If it were to be like any Bf, it should be like BF 1942... you know, the old WW2 version?

I think thats what AoS was heading towards anyway, before Jagex came right?

Lets think about it:

It was slowpaced, has older looking guns, And the deuces look like they weren't in any recent wars.

It would be nice to play a newer type game set in the past, eh? Everyone is trying to be a military shooter, why not have a WW1/2 game, kinda like what I think Ben was trying to create.

Oh, and to Jdrew, you saw what happened when we made all those threads? I don't think the general community has their minds made up. Again, this is only an ideas thread, and these aren't final. I just thought it would be nice for people to store away their thoughts.

Yes but if we do not have a clear way point or direction then what good are all these ideas? Instead we should find the top three ways we should go with OpenSpades and then talk about the ideas and suggestions to help us get there.

Aren't they obvious?

If by top 3 ways, you mean the direction of the game, I believe everyone would agree to something like it was going to be... a slow paced, tactical shooter.

You have to think of the future though. If we go more slow paced and WW 2 then we won't be getting much new players which would leave us in the same situation we are now. We should instead go for a WW 2 fast paced styled game but with features that make it feel slow paced.

By slow paced tactical future he means it's not all FPS, there's elements of other things like building tactical poitions, this website's called 'Build & Shoot' not just 'Shoot'. And why did you bring up this whole 'WW2 theme', personally I think that would be a bad idea. I think a key thing to promote BnS is the creativity, the freedom of anything, making anything you want.

WW 2 is mostly slow paced, you didn't see people just running around in the early cod games. You had to take the snipers and other guys out before moving in. Of course most people just ran up and got shot anyway.

I did not think of that at all... I guess people could create WW2 servers without us trying to cram it down their throats anyway huh?

AoS is like going in and shooting instead of tactical fighting. It wasn't like this long ago but huge reason why it's going the wrong direction. I mean a huge part of it is the stupid maps people put in.

We're discussing what OpenSpades is going to be, sure servers can be WW2 based but OpenSpades is not going to be WW2 Based.

This isn't what AoS was SUPPOSED to be, this is just what it turned into because of all the small maps people started to play on. In reality, its supposed to be slow, and tactical. Where one sniper really didn't matter, or you couldn't rambo with an SMG. It needed Teamwork, squads, and a bit of grit, which honestly you don't need anymore.

Does it really matter what it was supposed to be though? That is all in the past. Although I would prefer a more WW 2 styled game I think making it modern would appeal to more people. I know my thoughts are a bit rambled here and I am sorry for that.

What you are saying here is very valid... but we shouldn't push it one way or the other. If the weapons are made, and people have the ability to enable or disable, anyone can make any type of server.

You do have a point, but I want AoS to be AoS, not turn into some other shooting game.

I'll give you little hint. Just go there http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=openspades and talk with learn_more or any other developer. They'll tell you what's maybe possible and what's definitly NOT possible. We don't have to talk about utopian dreams.
