In my honest opinion, the rifle and the SMG both are pretty OP. Rifle is a 1-hit KO in the head, while the rifle is something anyone can get easy kills with. Meanwhile at the shotgun section... For that cause its about the same.

In the end, it was surely a change for the worse. When it was first implemented, many argued that it was underpowered, and yes, for the playstyle of long range fighting that people were already most accustomed to, it was really useless when it came to it. Even so, it was more meant for close quarters combat and not running out into the open which is what most people would do. So, after the disappointing reaction to this, it was changed into a longer ranging weapon, small tweaks have been made up until now. In 0.75/0.76 it's definitely an overpowered weapon, having the ability to snipe with it is just ridiculous and irritating while you have to make shots count with the rifle and then some SMG user comes along to take you out within a fraction of the time fast and efficiently. This is something I would have expected to be fixed over time like the rifle was in 0.76, unfortunately this didn't happen seeing as development went in an entirely different direction.
So, in conclusion, judging from what we have to look a now, it most certainly made AoS worse.

Worse... nothing more to be said. When the shotgun was added, I really didn't feel a change in the gameplay but the SMG ruined it... excluding that update where the shotgun could kill people from across the map.

Anyhow, most of you have heard me say something about how the SMG is the cancer of AoS.
I can name two things it kills: the close-range rifle fights, and spade rushing (I know SMG is older than spade melee, but SMG also wasn't so bloody popular before 0.75), and using an SMG like a complete noob is sufficient to kill these things.
It is the one gun that we didn't want. (We actually voted on having a shotgun, and Ben saw past the last-minute trollvote for the sniper rifle.)
75 headshot damage at 10 rounds per second, fairly easy to get the headshot by accident, and it takes forever to blow through 30 rounds of ammo if you're not a complete noob.
Couple this with the massive rifle accuracy nerf and you have a fine recipe for killing a game.

I think it kind of made it worse, it was alright when it was first implemented but also very hard to use, then in the later updates it made a larger impact on the game. I think a light machine gun would fit better in this game if an automatic would be added

Now the SMG broke AOS. But that the SMG is more inaccurate and that it got lower damage it would be really good .

I liked the smg in .70, but that's probably because the rifle is much more accurate (in addition to the fact that it didn't do 85 damage to the head.
I haven't played iceball yet, so I have no say on this anyway... But in any case, I'd rather just keep the .70 smg. I don't know why the smg should be removed. It's fun to have a rifle-only game, but it would feel monotonous over time.

How about we buff the shotgun, because if all the weapons are OP, wouldn't it be balanced?

I voted for better, but that's not to say I wouldn't appreciate some tweaking to it.

Here's my take on this:
1. Before the SMG and Shotgun the game got boring after a while (I have only played pre-.70 versions once or twice so I am not really a good judge of this though)
2. The Shotgun is good, the SMG needs tweaking.
3. IMO we could just take away the SMG and add a placeable machinegun and that would be fine with me, heck I think it would make the game way more interesting
I voted 'about the same.'
Not to say the game was the same gameplay wise, but fun wise.

Of all three weapons, SMG takes the least skill to use effectively by far. That being said, sometimes it IS fun to just use it to go on an easy killing spree. Besides, every player has access to it, so I don't get too butthurt when I get killed by it at long ranges.

Just take away the far range of the smg and the game will be back to normal

Im quite good with the rifle and the SMG, with the shotgun its another story.
The thing is they are both useful in different situations, scenarios and tasks you or your team need to accomplish.
If one is truly good with the rifle, then some SMG carrying soldiers should be no hard task to eliminate. I think its silly that we still have this conflict against the SMG and such.
Anyhow, ive played in some servers (don't remember which at the moment) that had disable the smg, players could not select it.
I think that some servers should use that rifle only script to satisfy the so called riffle purists.
see you on he battlefield. good huntin.
