By reboot I mean to make a new version, and get a new name to be completely independent from Jagex (I'm not sure how legal stuff works, so I won't talk much about it). Make a massive change in it, make something that we can't even think of. Create a forum only for ideas that will be posted in and gathered by motivated people. I would post my vision of it, but it obviously won't be initiated. Like this, game won't last for long, at least not for me, I don't know how the others feel. IMO the key of keeping a game alive is to maintain that spark in players that makes them truly want to play that game....
I've always liked new starts if they were able to ignite my spark.
<VerstehIchNicht> and aos is getting lame
<VerstehIchNicht> its like raping a dead body over and over again
<VerstehIchNicht> its just starts to rot and stink
<VerstehIchNicht> if openspade becomes cool in a way of moving away from aos
<VerstehIchNicht> and adding new stuff
<VerstehIchNicht> and becomes his own thing
<VerstehIchNicht> i might play it
...

With Iceball and Openspades, we can finally add in everything we have ever wanted! Vehicles, Pistols, MGs, EVERYTHING that Ben had once promised us, can be achieveable guys... we just have to put a little effort in on our parts! New game modes, new kinds of servers, it can ALL be possible :)... All we need to do is bring these two together, so they play off of a new kind of pyspades if you will, kind of the way OpenSpades and Buildandshoot are conjoined. :)
In my opinion, there are 3 main directions we can head to:
1) Try to get more players into .76 We are doing this already but the success is negligible. We won't solve the problems tin and vin mentioned and the problem of leaving members with this plan but it would be the way with the least work.
2) Move to iceball, it runs on almost every pc, is similar to the old aos versions and we could maybe get old veterans back. The problem is that it's quite unfinished, mainly a game from programmers for programmers and i doubt that we could get fast more players.
(and Grease left :/, so no more updates )
3) Put all effort into OpenSpades. In my opinion this is the way with the least disadvantages, the only one i know is that a few people won't be able to play it because of openGL. But the advantages are huge. Just remember this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC6WYIETbCo. We are able to make our completely OWN 1.0 version. yvt scripted the weapons in OpenSpades, it's not anymore "would be possible" it IS possible now. If we choose this way, imo we have to make OS master server first, to avoid unfairness between people playing with aos clients and os clients on one server and second, more important, get the option to add new stuff on client AND server side. I understand the people concerning about to much changes and "jagex or cod openspades", that's why we have to do these changes carefully and after consultation with the whole community.
BUT we have to make objective discussions, every has to pull themselves together, no more immature wranglings and maybe the most important part, we have to agree on one way. People who disagree about the way the majority wants to go in the end have to deal with it and support it too or leave this.
To the people saying "i want my rifle and nothing else", people won't play a rifle only game one year after another.
I think vin and tin are right, we have to move away from aos and jagex and make our own thing. A reboot.
EDIT: Potifi said it's risky in legal ways, but we use a different engine and a different name then. With this thinking, brickforce would be illegal too.
Changed headline to make it sound less aggressive.
