OpenSpades is an open source alternative client for AoS Classic and beyond! Runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Created by yvt. Compatible with AoS Classic.

wut.
that is like saying: green is more a color than red...

because you didnt read.
$oldierboy wrote:Plus, I don't think DirectX supports voxels so if a game/client was made, it would not support modding.
wrong.
the original ace of spades didnt use directx, so i'm not sure why you guys keep blabbing about directx?
the original did software rendering, and used directdraw to present the result of that software rendering...
An example of an OpenGL game: Sub Rosa, has blocky graphics. It looks like something that you would be able to play on your 2003 Dell Dimension... but, alas, it doesn't run on an old PC. What I am saying is, that we should make a client that utilizes something a bit faster than OpenGL but still has smoother graphics.
Ex.
The current AoS (1.#) and OpenSpades, have smooth graphics that have voxels that DON'T rotate when you move. AoS (.75 and .76) has rotating voxels when you view then from different angles. It seems like one side of the voxel always have to face you.
I don't want to hijack this thread, but, the word "DirectX" started to annoying me.
For fuck's sake, if you mean a Direct thingy, It is Direct3D (D3D) not DX.
Personally I don't play AOS anymore. Too much 24/7 bullshit

Uhh... no it doesn't. That game has fancy shadows, physics, ragdolls, antialiasing, and particle effects.

Do most programmers get mad off of little stuff like this?

everyone gets annoyed by ignorant kids who keep on yelling crap they don't know the first thing about, and continue doing it without any arguments whatsoever even though their ideas are clearly bullshit (and proven so with valid arguments)

DirectDraw is a part of DirectX. Voxlap uses DirectDraw. (And thusly DirectX) The "original" Ace of Spades uses Voxlap. (And thusly DirectX)
Ergo, everything here uses DirectX.

directx is a superset of directdraw.
thus, directx is partly directdraw, directdraw is not directx.

"Superset"? What are you talking about?
DirectDraw is an API extension which is a part of DirectX. (Wikipedia says it's deprecated, but Voxlap is from the late 90's after all.)

This. Oh god, the retardery in this thread hurts my brain.
Also, being a pedantic dick and getting pissed off because someone made a small error like that, then correcting them wrongly really annoys me - don't do that.
