...Yes, people tend to make statements like that with something to back it up with. Are you serious right now?

Yes those IRCops over there are bullies! People like Unreal, uvs, Enari, Reuben, rakiru and I are terrible people, I hate them.

Once again, want the records to show that I went on Mumble and asked Jdrew what he meant by "insecure". What it came down to was basic IRC problems, lack of knowledge on how IRC servers are run, and good old-fashioned fear mongering.

if you try to make a point it's kind of moronic not giving any arguments and just continue bashing...

for Jdrew's defence:
I believe that Quake net isn't bad but is unsecure in some ways. You can impersonate easily, and nobody really thinks twice about whether your the real person or not. I have not tried LDRoT but if it has nick records, then its nice to know, because getting an auth isn't the most user friendly thing, alternating between irc commands and emails, a simple /register Bob99 12345 (your@e.mail), and an instant registering. but you have to use a whole lot of commands, and if you forget your pass you cant click: "I forgot my password", you got to search up those commands, if they have that option, or a better /help at least, with a list of the commands you can use, including showing you how to register and log in, which is something Quake net doesn't have.

I just want to point out in topo's defense that topo has never abused or done an unfair ban; same goes to all the other ircops. I would much rather get a troll kick from Reuben or Korakoff than get a netsplit from Qnet or limit myself to only 20 channels per user.

I just wanted to chime in. I know little about how IRC networks are set up and how they work.

Two things I worry about for any serious business channels like admining, moderating, etc. would be monitoring and logging of said channels.

I assume there are network wide logs of everything. I dont know if an IRCOP would have access to that or not. If someone was interested in monitoring a channel like that I dont know if we would even be aware of it. On a large network, we are very small fish in the sea. So my concerns still hold true but I assume no one would be interested in monitoring us.

For the main channel #buildandshoot, it is pretty much for socializing and nothing serious. Which means I am pretty apathetic towards the network it is hosted on. We used quakenet because #AoS was set up on quakenet.

AFAIK, the only exclusive logs an IRCop gets are logs for connecting/disconnecting, and that's just for the node they have the O-line on. Everything else would be available to node-hosters only, I think. Also those old rumors about reading PMs are ridiculous and as far as I can tell impossible.

everyone with access to the server can read logs, also pm logs.
data going to the server can technically be read.

Huh, well, that just shows what I know about it, lol. Either way, none of that happens.
