Recently I've seen a lot of controversy about what will happen next in the future of Ace of Spades, therefore I thought this might be the place to discuss stuff revolving this topic.
One thing that came to mind is: Why change anything?
Obviously you all very much enjoy this game and have fun playing it. It's been forever since there's been an update, yet you're still here. Why change the game when you can change the gameplay? There are tons of ways to make new game modes, maps, etc to change the way you play and enjoy the game. For example, arena. Arena is a game mode that's in a whole new ball park, a game mode to Capture The Intel. Why not have new, creative game modes being made to keep your thirst for this game alive?

Now, one thing I'm not aware of is IceBall. I've only read the topic and skimmed a page or two from the thread, but I'm very uninformed about the project itself. Is it meant to completely replace our current applicant? If so, why?

Is the community for IceBall, or should we live on with .75? What's to come of Ace of Spades? The world may never know...

we should go to iceball, ace of spades is boring and isn't that well made, I think it is still very far from being a finished game.

Zeke, remind yourself that a lack of an update was the main reason why a lot of prominent members, like you, left in the first place. Now, when the community bond against Jagex breaks, we'll start hating ,75 again. Plus..., with our current graphics (We really need to update to Mat^2's early OpenGL engines), and weapon balance(the OP smg and semi won't last well with the weak shotgun), and hacking issues(which could be fixed with many updates), we have desperately been needing new versions. And, considering that right now we've been at a stalemate for a while, we haven't been keeping with industry standard, so we have to swim with updates or sink in the shadows of the internet.

EDIT: I've been trying to keep up with Iceball and Cube Root on the forums, despite a limited coding language, but its seems that they have made some great progress, with a PMF editor, spade kills, block breaking and such. It probably will replace the current client, but another great choice would be Cube Root.
Also, about the gamemodes, wouldn't at some point we have around 100 or so if just kept building up?

Well the main reason to replace AoS with Iceball or something else is that if it's something the community creates that open, it can continue being developed... because now Jagex owns Ace of Spades, and they don't HAVE to let people continue to play classic. They could shut it down any time they want to through legal action.

but Iceball or Cube Root, they can't do anything for, if the code is built independent from AoS and just keeping the same idea and spirit, they can't shut that down anywhere near as easily.

Incorrect - they can not force people to uninstall the game or stop them from hosting servers, so people can continue to play to their heart's content. The worst they could do is go after specific places that are hosting the installers, and even then it wouldn't be a sure thing, and they'd have to go after each one individually, which would be a long, expensive process, and one that can basically be ignored by the community as it only takes a few seconds to re-upload somewhere else.
