If it's physically impossible for you to not use the word "latin" in conjunction with Romance Languages, then at least "Vulgar Latin Languages" would be a more apropriate term from an academic standpoint.

An academic standpoint is as useful in here as a chainsaw with dildos for treads. This is a colloquial conversation, yes, saying "latin languages" makes me grind my teeth but I understand what he meant by it. People still say "reptiles" and "birds" even though "reptile" is a paraphyletic group, as it excludes mammals and birds, but I do not go shitting around and saying "uh no you're wrong, from an academic standpoint the correct is sauropsida(which includes both reptiles and birds, this forming a true clad), not reptiles" when someone uses it.

I know exactly what you mean! It's like when people think that Fungi are Plantæ. I could spend hours explaining the differences between them, such as Fungi cells' lack of chloroplasts, and therefore incapability of performing phontosynthesis. But also more basic things such as their reproductive systems, which in Plantæ works by spreading seeds, while Fungi spread spores, thusly exhibiting the wind currents to spread entire populations far further than any plant is capable of. Additionally, Fungi are - in contrast to Plantæ - decomposers, which just about makes the biggest difference.
tl;dr Fungi win!

what's wrong with latin languages?
There's nothing wrong with it but a reason why the Halo CE community is dying.
