Same. I always thought IRC was just like Mumble, but without the voice chat. I haven't used it much at all though, so I don't know much about it.

irc's can be helpful during events, but I question how useful they are just normally. Mainly since you have to be looking at that page, there's no notification noise whenever someone posts, so you can't just open it up on another window and alt tab and do something else. At least not to my knowledge.

Well I think there is an option that it beeps every-time someone says your name.

I know how to make one. My name gets beeped a lot when we play in the league because my in game name has my IRC nick in it so I am constantly hearing a beep. You can just turn firefox down though.
