The Fusil Mondragon is an autoloading or semi automatic battle rifle chambered for the 7mm Mauser cartridge. Developed in 1882 and put into production in 1887, it was the world's very first semi automatic rifle. 60 years ahead of its time, the firepower of one soldier with a Mondragon would equate to 3 men armed with bolt action rifles. The Mondragon was adopted for service in the Mexican army around the turn of the century, and the guns were produced by SIG in Switzerland as Mexico had no arms industry. The Mondragon was used in the bloody Mexican Revolution that was sparked just after it was adopted for service, and the hit squad that assassinated Pancho Villa had at least one Mondragon with them. In 1915 the German air command adopted the Mondragon for use in planes and on airships until machine guns were more available.

Believe it or not this is the oldest gun I've made, but will probably be superseded when I get around to making a martini henry
