Iceball 0.1 has been released - relevant thread here: http://iceballga.me/showthread.php?tid=25 - try it out and get it working before the event starts :)

( crossposting from here: http://iceballga.me/showthread.php?tid=23 - posting into this specific section because that's the only damn way we're going to get any more than a 4v4 happening )

Making the vague assumption that there are no major bugs left in the Iceball engine itself (har har), we should be able to release 0.1 pretty soon.

And we might as well have a match to celebrate finally getting somewhere after 8 months!

This Saturday 29 June at 10pm GMT (not necessarily 10pm UK time, check if you're on daylight misbehavings time), we will be hosting an event on version 0.1, which will hopefully be in a nice bundle.

I'm considering making the map a 512x512 gen, because the 256x256 gen will be a bit too small if we get a lot of players in.

We will probably block the pre-0.1-release versions from joining, including the 0.1 release candidates which are technically 0.0-51 and 0.0-53, but I aim to have 0.1 released a day or two before so you'll at least have some time to get up to date.

This is great news, can't wait. Blue_Tongue

I'm hoping the match can also be recorded, to attract more people to come play.

Will the downloads be idiot-proof or are everyone who wants going to join?

So excited to see Iceball taking off. Hopefully this event pulls more attention to it.

After having a play around on an empty server, and having played a 1v1 against PABH yesterday, I feel I have something to confess.

It's... *sniff*... a little bit... emotional.

Please, just...

Try to understand...

...

BLUE MASTER RACE all you green scumbags are inferior

So yeah, I think I'll play for Blue in the event. Because we're better.

I've been a blue since the dawn of this game.
Except when the blue team is full though. That's not alway avoidable.

0.1 has been released, see the first post for a link to a link to a download link. Please ensure that it actually runs on your computer before the event. If it crashes when you connect to a server and the map starts appearing, check clsave/config.json and set gl_vbo to false. (Plus you might want to set fog to 80 in clsave/pub/user.json, if this is the GPU I'm thinking of.)

Right guys, you've got about 13 hours before the event starts.

Map: 512x512 gen_classic, 2x turbulence (to match the hilliness of the 256x256 we run most of the time), regular water level.
Mods: None (OK, maybe a simple script I can pull out of my ass in 10 minutes or so). Note, not to be confused with "skins", which this community tends to misrefer to as "mods".
Lua code version: Latest git.
Time: 60 minutes.
Score limit: 5 caps.

For the best experience, everyone should get on the Mumble server (mumble.buildandshoot.com, default port).
We will also be gathering in #iceball on the quacknet.org IRC server. You should be in either this or the mumble server, as those are the places where I'll be reminding you of where the server is just in case you've forgotten.

So after those 60 minutes, will the server shut down or can we just continue playing?
