So, with Powerthirst coming to life recently, what are the plans with such clients? As far as I can tell powerthirst is backwards compatible with .75 completely, and offers a whole new dimension for server hosts.

Basically, will there ever be plans to modify the .75 download available, or at least offer another client like Powerthirst? Or offer pyspades in addition with server.exe?

Would it be better to wait until 1.0 inevitably crashes and burns?

Currently there's 3 playable things that are ready enough to be promoted as "the happening thing":
- 0.76 rc10
- 0.75 powerthirst
- iceball

Plus two things that aren't:
- Sonarpulse's voxlap port
- ByteBit's remake (no networking support)

The community in my view needs to get in their heads that 0.75 sucks, because it does. I've learnt to really hate it. 0.76 has more than two servers up (come on server owners, we can totally promote this!), so I'm guessing that'd be the most likely candidate for now.

We really should mark 0.76 as the "primary" download.

Powerthirst Edition is probably the easiest to deal with mod-wise, as we already have the ensemble of Pyspades scripts lying around the place, and all that needs to be done to get stuff working clientside is the editing of the scripts sent to the client. However, it's really not ideal to work with (from my perspective, not the modder's perspective), and it's legally dubious.

Honestly, I'd rather skip Powerthirst in favour of something along the lines of Iceball - maybe not Iceball exactly, but something with the same fundamental concept. After all, the two people doing most of the work at the moment are both called Ben, so it must be good, right?

But I guess we just have to work with everyone's stubbornness.

We really, really should migrate to 0.76 though. Like, nowish.

Agreed! 0.76 has 5 servers up right now. For awhile now I have been playing only 0.76 unless of events. We should start making events 0.76 too.

If we actually get iceball finished then that would be perfect. Will probably take quite some time though, not that I know a lot about that. But yeah, somewhere in the future we have to make a choice on what we're going to support, be it .76, iceball, powerthirst or something else. This can't go on forever, people will lose interest for .75.

Iceball will never be "finished", because that implies that we will reach a point where there is nothing we can do.
If you really, really want to, I can just make a few tiny changes and call it "1.0", if that makes you think it's "finished enough".
Having said that, I'm getting pretty close to having ENet support added, and then we're basically ready for 0.1.

Agreed. The 0.76 download should be called Primary. The client is fully functional but I think in the eyes of many just needs some minor changes such as the text, as the chat/kill feed can become harder to see against light backgrounds. The servers are also almost redundant if not completely missing of hackers, which is an up for the client. We need to start moving onto 0.76 very soon, people are becoming bored which isn't very good. We need more awareness and activity on 0.76 servers.

I'm usually sitting on the @Sw 0.76 server quite often, if anyone ever wants to play. So I'm also changing map regularly when needed so people don't leave out of boredom.

I quite like the idea of Powerthirst, perhaps add 0.76 as the primary download and additionally adapt Powerthirst to 0.76 calling it 0.76 Powerthirst edition on the download section, giving us one regular 0.76 version and one PT version of 0.76. As from what I've heard, it has a lot of freedom, such as servers being able to add extra weapons for players, giving them a lot of room to play around with load-outs and so on. So on one hand we'll have Iceball and the other Powerthirst 0.76.

Although these have to be available to download straight from the download section to be able to become popular. We can get out some youtube videos to attract players, which will grow the community as well.

It should just be renamed 1.0. It's still progress over what we currently have.
I really think Iceball should get on the download list ASAP. The more players we have on it the better in my opinion, we'll get better tests and feedback to you that way. It's also pretty much playable, although I have to ask about animation, will that be further developed too soon, or is that something which shouldn't be considered a priority yet?

Also Bytebit's re-make of AoS, would that also be a possible route to take (if he is willing), or will Iceball prioritize for Build and Shoot?
