In my PERSONAL opinion, I would say Java (NOT javascript) or C# are practical, good programming languages to start using. I've started learning java myself, and I think it's pretty damn good, and fairly easy to learn once you've got the absolute basics in your head :)
Don't tell me I'm wrong. I'll send you a disturbing picture.

StackOverflow introduced me to ProGirl recently and I got to say it would probably be the best language to learn.

The secret to ProGirl is it taps into the power of pink and kittens, a method unseen until now, and with the worlds defenseless kittens as your processing power, enjoy hours of ProGirl fun, even the Great Nikola Tesla was quoted as saying "ProGirl? That picture is disturbing, Considering that he is about 5 yrs old. Has Marble eyes, Doesn't have any eyelashes. Also he is wearing a very realistic polar bear cap, Also has lost almost every teeth, And has a very odd expression. Also HE DOES NOT HAVE A NOSE
