Hey,

Selling my old netbook to a friend. was just wondering to totally reset it to factory default. Lest he stumble on my deleted extensive porn collection. I need to delete all traces of all personal files, internet history, cached data etc. But leave the OS intact. Thanks guys :D

More than likely there is a recovery partition. On start-up before windows loads press f-12 or f-10 or delete... There is a message that flashes on screen that says press a button for boot options. After you do that, there is probably an option to recovery or restore the computer. Do that option.

just format it and have him reinstall the OS
then he's also gotten rid of all the crapware vendors like to install.

So, if you reset the pc to factory settings it'll remove crapware?
If that's true then I'll do that every time I buy a pc.

Google "Re-image"
But if you wouldn't want him to find you pr0n, depending on his tech skill (and inquisition) he can uncover files that you have "deleted", if he is skilled and inquisitive, destroy the hard drive. If his isn't, then just re-image it.

Format (or shred) the drive then reinstall Windows (or whatever operating system it's running). Resetting to factory settings will probably only reset the BIOS settings, not the disk drive(s). Being a netbook, it might be different, but every other computer I've seen works this way.
