As someone who has been playing/being involved since 1.3, I rather enjoy plenty of the new updates. Yeah, there are always a bunch I feel take away some aspects of the game, but there are others that add onto it. I have been watching Minecraft for awhile. I've been more entertained recently than ever before.
When I played I loved the horses in Mo' Creatures. I think the new horse just adds more variety. I've been watching VintageBeef's last few lets plays that were focused around horses and loved them.
If you think about it, if we were stuck in the same, simple version forever, we'd all be watching redstone projects and the same o'l adventure maps.

Yup, Minecraft might tend to get boring after awhile if there were no new updates. It keeps the game exciting, and all that.

Personally, I feel somewhat the same. Minecrafts original charm is starting to go away.
I feel that it was best in 1.2.5 (though I have to say, the crafting shortcuts in 1.5 are epic).
When they made singleplayer an LAN server my performace dropped to rock bottom. No joke. I could barely play until I upgraded my computer.
1.7 terrain generation was AWESOME. I really think they should add it back, the current terrain generator SUCKS.

Honestly, it is starting to lose it's magic that it had in Beta & earlier.
Chances are, Minecraft is getting too many features at once in the game. Sure, pigs & redstone compactors are OK, but there's something about this game that's just not as entertaining an experience as Beta.

Eh, I don't really mind new stuff as long as it's not too intrusive.
F.ex. nether. If you don't make the nether portal yourself, there is no way it'll negatively affect you.
I like all updates so far, except enhancements and the new terrain.
Oh how beautiful it used to look..

Having played since Beta 1.2 I don't really feel the same. While the game has seemed to change, I think the basics are still there, and you can still go out and just improve your settlement or build a new one.
The terrain generator is absolutely terrible now though. I'm killing myself for losing my original world, it had so many areas I wanted to build in someday but I never did.

After playing since late alpha I have to say:
There are good updates (like when the beds got introduced)
There are average updates (where they just fix some shit)
and there are horrible updates (like bats WHO THE FUCK WANTS OR NEEDS BATS !!!)
Also as someone already said the terrain generator got crappy :<

I guess I'm lucky that way. I loaded mine up in like early october 2010. When it was on alpha 1.1.2_01. I still have the first world, and I can go back to see my first shelter, and the house I panicked while building in the middle of the night.

Aww :c
I had a server with my friends since late beta 1.3. We've just lost interest now, and I closed it down. I'm really sad, I made so many friends and lost a few too on that server, it has been an eventful couple of years.
My friend and I made the town Lolsville before we even knew how to use admin commands. Good times, but lost times

I didn't think the nether was genereated until a play went in it? If that is true then would you still have all of the nether stuff in the 1.5 updates just not the temples or emeralds?
