Since the Wiki has been taken offline, and there are people constantly wondering how to change weapons and teams in-game, I thought I would make a Newbie Guide here on the forums.

Introduction

"Ace of Spades" is a Voxel based First Person Shooter developed by Ben Aksoy in 2011, that uses Ken Silvermen's Voxlap engine. The game has a newer version that is available on Steam for $10 or your regional equivalent, that was Developed by Jagex and uses the OpenGL engine. You can find more information regarding the Steam version of this game here.

Installation

Installation is as simple as a couple of clicks.

1. Go to the top of the webpage. Look for the area titled "How to Play" next to servers.
2. When prompted, select save file. If you're using Google Chrome, the file should start downloading automatically. *Note that the file is a .msi, which is a Windows Installer.*
3. When the file is finished, double click it. The installer will then ask you to select a directory (default C:\Ace of Spades) where game files will be stored. This isnt something you really need to worry about unless you like being organized.
4. The files will be installed, and the game is now ready to play.

Playing the Game

Playing the game is very simple. To play the game, go to where you installed the game near the top of the page and click on "Servers".This will bring you to a page that contains a server list where you can then click on a server and play the game. Your internet browser may ask you select a program that will open this type of file. If this happens, click browse and enter your Ace of Spades folder (where you stored it, default is C:\Ace of Spades). Double click "client", then click run.

Gameplay functions like most modern FPS games:

W-Move forward
S-Move backward
A-Strafe left
D-Strafe right
Left CTRL-Crouch
Left Shift-Sprint
Space-Jump
T-Global Chat
Y-Team Chat
.(Period)-Change weapons
,(comma)-Change teams
Right click-aim
Left click-shoot
Tab-Scoreboard

When you enter a server, you will be prompted to select between two teams, Green or Blue, and three weapons, Rifle, SMG, and Shotgun. Press 1 for Green, or 2 for Blue. For a weapon, press 1 for Rifle, 2 for SMG, and 3 for Shotgun.

When you press tab, there are four things to see:
1. The big numbers at the top is your teams score. Capture the intel to make this score go up.
2. Player names
3. ID number
4. Individual Player score

Servers

There are several people who run server chains, such as Minit, Aloha, and JestServers. Other people run their own servers. Everyone is allowed to run their own server, and heres how:

1. Forward/Open port 32887 on your modem. The easiest way to do this is to open up a command prompt (Windows+R, type "cmd" in the box), and type "ipconfig". Take your DEFAULT GATEWAY and type it into the url bar at the top of your browser. This may require a password. Some passwords may be default, such as "Administrator" or "Password", but if you use say a 2WIRE modem, you will have to look on the back of the modem.
2. Download a free copy of PySnip
3. Open your copy of PySnip, and open "config.txt" Here you will be allowed to edit how your server runs, what scripts your server runs, admin passwords, maps, and the name of your server. This will take a bit of time to get down.
4. When you're done, save it and close it. Then open "run.exe". People will then be able to enter and exit your server.

Modifying Game files
In this version of the game, you're allowed to modify guns, scopes, sounds, and body parts and make them into whatever you want. Player models are KV6 files.Slab6 will help you modify these kinds of files. Sounds are regular wma files. A basic free sound editor will help you create new sound files. Scopes are png files. Scopes aren't that hard to make, unless you want to make blocky sights. There is a tutorial on how to do that here.

Other programs that may help
Spadille. Although it doesnt connect to the master server and give a list of available servers anymore, right click a server on the server page and select copy link address. Then use the direct connect option under File in Spadille. Spadille uses less RAM than a browser, such as Firefox or Chrome, so for those of you with lower end computers or just computers that dont have much RAM, your game is going to run much smoother with this program.

Build and Shoot Launcher. This launcher lets you have multiple versions of this game installed on your computer, and puts them into a simple launcher, ready for you to use. If you're only focused on .75, this might not be of interest to you unless you're looking for an easier way to edit config files, which Spadille also offers.

Modloader. This program lets you switch mods in game, without having to exit the game and switch files. Press insert to do this.

Other things you might want to know
•Most servers have a way to directly contact admins. If you think someone is cheating, or there is a griefer, use /admin yourmessagehere and hit enter.
•There is a votekick option. If there are no admins around, type /votekick id number reason. Players can then vote to kick someone out.
•You can also visit a server chains website to report a cheater. Websites will be listed below.
•Keep a backup of your game files. I cannot stress this enough. A lot of players end up modifying their game files wrong, and need to replace them most of the time. Keep a backup so you do not need to uninstall and reinstall the game every time you accidentally mess up.

Aloha - http://www.aloha.pk

Thank you for reading, and Ill see you on the battlefield.

Wait what, your game runs smoother with spadille than a browser? I thought the browser was just there to connect to the game.

If you have a really bad computer, running the browser as well as the game could be too much for your computer. A dedicated server browser is more lightweight than a browser, so it is less likely to cause problems. Another issue could be if you have a tab open that is continually loading a resource, then it is using your network, leaving less for the game.

Any idiot can play AoS, there doesn't really need to be a guide.

EDIT: Also, when I used to use Spadille, my game lagged. So what I would do is launch the game then close spadille. Never lagged when I used the browser though (and I use that memory hog called Chrome)
