Agreed with the RAM thing, you're likely to never need 16 GB. Also I have an 8350, hasn't given me an ounce of grief yet.

I'd love to have 16GB (I have 12). Then again, I doubt he does as much shit at once as I do.

Also is it worth paying £20 less? and just going with 8GB RAM (2x4GB). Or keep going with the current plan of 16GB (2x8GB)

If all you're going to do is game, 8 GB is more than enough. If you are going to be editing/rendering videos or running multiple VM's. You might want to go with 16.

I can do all of that with 4GB...

Except using maya really grinds my ram, uses like 3.5 GB

For video editing and rendering it is highly recommended to have atleast 8 GB.
