First of all, hello. I have been playing OpenSpades for quite some time now, but I just made an account to this site. My account name is same as my in-game name. Say hi if you see me. I suck at this game, though.
Let me start by saying that I like OS. It's simplistic, but is requires thinking and the guns are all fun to use. The building element just adds to the strategic gameplay, and makes the game really fun.
I think OpenSpade's biggest shortcomings come from the players that play it. People seem to play it like it's a blocky version of CoD, but OS is about teamwork. Playing with your team, watching their backs. Of course, there's the usual griefers and trolls. And the hackers, but there's probably a million other threads about them.
That's not say OS is without it's own problems. The jumping feels awkward, and the three guns aren't really balanced. The Shotgun is useless, because most of the maps are open. The SMG is OP. It can be as accurate as the Rifle with tapshooting.
So, make the jumping less awkward, maybe nerf the SMG, and I'll have nothing to complain about. The draw distance could be increased, there might be a way, but I haven't found it. Also, something like binoculars could be cool. The lagging is annoying, but being a fan operated game, I really can't complain. Also, some kind of offline mode would be much appreciated. It could be just a shooting range, or something like that.
I know that the BnS community is dying, and it will probably take OS and the classic version with it. That's a shame. I will always remember the really epic moments that I have had is OS. Like the awesome Hallway matches, that went on for hours. Or seeing the Nuketown map completely destroyed after a game. Or tunneling to the enemy, suprising their flanks with a well placed nade and SMG spray.
Well, there's the Jagex version, which is just the classic AoS, minus everything that made AoS fun in the first place.
And hey, maybe they'll someday be a worthy replacement for AoS, and the game can finally rest in peace.
This was Capitano, peace.
(And don't play the Jagex version. It sucks.)
Randomness about OS.

I tried VoxelWar. It has potential, but still feels rather clunky and unpolished.

OS is not as clunky as VoxelWar. At least OpenSpades is fun. VoxelWar has some things that make it a bit different than OS, but nobody seemed to be online when I played it. That and the controls and sounds are utter garbage.
I will say, that at least the guns are balanced, and the airstrikes are actual aristrikes, rather than grenades falling from the sky. The mortars are extremely cool, too. The ammo boxes are also a nice touch, but I never actually ran out of bullets in OS in the first place.

Well that is because OS has an unfair advantage with ammo then VXW. Quite frankly, in voxelwar, you will loose bullets reeaaalllyyyy quickly.

Ok back to topic, you had the luck of not noticing how CS/CoD-like OS is. You need no teamwork if one player can sneak or easily train skills to snipe everybody in a few seconds. Building doesn't really add tactics if there's no need to build. What would you need a large fortress for, if it's enough to build a small wall? If somebody only adds new weapons, it will stay the same (mortars might change things a little bit). SMG is indeed OP, but consider the power of the rifle. imho
Btw, BnS may die, but the playerbase will stay for some time. However, it will die later as well without the organization and control of BnS.

You have seemed to miss my point. First of all, just building that small wall to protect yourself makes the building relevant, and fun. Stationary cover is nowhere to be found. (Unless playing Arena, of course.) There is no point building a giant fortress, and there will never be a reason.
As for weapons, I only mentioned the mortars. Adding more weapons, especially more powerful weapons you pick up is a bad, bad idea. It would effectively erase the depth from OS. And if someone managed to be good enough to sneak to the enemy base and snipe everybody, how would that erase the teamwork aspect of OS? Please explain that.
As for OS being like CoD or CS, I do not remember either of those to have completely destructible enviroments, or block placement. Or a Babel gamemode. Or a functional Hallway map. Or pretty team colors.

But ok, it's your taste.
Capitano wrote: And if someone managed to be good enough to sneak to the enemy base and snipe everybody, how would that erase the teamwork aspect of OS? Please explain that. That means that there's no need to do teamwork if everyone can kill the whole enemy on his own.

Or pretty team colors.Building has very little importance in AoS, babel has merely a few players, many CS maps are as simple and dumb as hallway, and team colours don't really matter. But since this very little importance of building is enough for you, just forget this discussion.

Very little importance? The constructing and deconstructing is the most important aspect of OS.
And I don't think everyone who plays OS is a sniping god, which makes your claim irrelevant, and a bit absurd.
I mentioned the Babel gamemode, because it is a gametype that does not exist in other FPS games. And I just finished playing a Babel match with full players.
The "pretty team colors"-thing was a sarcastic joke. But I guess you're a bit too dumb to get them.

People are contradicting themselves alot here...
Besides, there's only a small minority who actually buil the tower in Babel. The rest is just sniping and things.

Yes, everybody who isn't an SMGay is a sniping god or pretty close to that. But I guess you're a bit too dumb to realize that :P
Unless you play babel, building isn't very important. You just have to build a 2x2 wall to protect your body from SMGs.

Well, the way I see it, people use the Rifle for two reasons:
1) They are actually good with the weapon, a la a sniping god.
2) They think that the Rifle is automatically better than the SMG, and use it, even if they really can´t. This is more common then number 1.
The SMG and Rifle are different guns, and suit different play styles. Calling people SMGay, just because they prefer the SMG, is absolutely stupid.
And, I have said this about three times now, just building that 2X2 wall to protect yourself makes the building important, and a part of the game.
Anyways, why don`t we just stop this flame war, okay? I made this thread to give my opinion on the game, not to engade in a verbal war.
And I apologize for calling you dumb.
