Hello,

I am trying to get the game working, but so far no luck.

I downloaded and installed it from this website.

My firewall is turned off. I am using Windows 7.

Clicking the server links from Chrome 24.0.1312.56m (latest build) - nothing happens.

Clicking the server links from Internet Explorer 8 (8.0.7601.17514) results in this error:
The webpage cannot be displayed

Most likely cause:
•Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.

What you can try:
Search online for a program you can use to view this web content.

Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.
Clicking on the server links from Firefox 14.0.1 results in a similar error:
The address wasn't understood

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (aos) isn't associated with any program.

You might need to install other software to open this address.
All of these browsers were present on the computer before installing the game.

Having decided that the game simply failed to register properly with my browsers, I try running it from the command-line.

I navigate to the game folder from cmd, and run:
Code: Select all
client aos://3593256536:32899
(a server from the list at http://buildandshoot.com/serverlist_page.php )

I get a "Server connection failed" error. I try it with a couple other servers from the list. Same deal.

I then start up a server to try connecting to myself locally. After "Server Setup Finished!" and the command list, I get a "Could not retrieve IP address". Okay, no problem, that's probably the router. Shouldn't stop me from connecting locally, right?

I now try to connect to the local server:
Code: Select all
client aos://16777343
Still "Server connection failed".

I give up.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong? Thanks!

To connect via command line, you have to do this:
Code: Select all
client -aos://16777343
That hyphen is important.

Perhaps any character works and it just strips it off.

Its a joke? Firefox has problems with cookies some times, check to see if they are all activated.

It's not a problem with Firefox my slow witted friend, it's happening with Chrome and IE (which isn't surprising since IE sucks).

I personally always eat my cookies, so if they're broken that's why.

Cookies have nothing to do with how a browser handles AoS addresses. Cookies are small text files containing information about activity on a site. And by the way, DON'T ENABLE COOKIES! And get rid of the ones you have installed. It allows for people to spy on you and breach your privacy.

I'm not exactly sure if we all know what cookies are, but rakiru or I guess GM can compose a rant about it.

To me, it sounds like there were some problems with writing to the registry (basically, your computer didn't remember how to launch aos:// links). As with anything ever, reinstall it.

1) Completely uninstall the program (either via Windows or something like Revo Uninstaller).
2) Restart your computer.
3) Redownload the download file, then install it again, fresh. Don't do any weird custom-install or anything, and make sure you run the installer to the end.
4) Restart your computer again.
5) Try it now.

Yes, this. If cookies somehow manage to affect how Firefox handles aos:// addresses, then either Firefox, his computer, or both are seriously fucked up. Once again, giving advice on something you don't understand will, in most cases, only waste time, or possibly even make things worse. Don't fucking do it.

And Lemon, I don't know if you're being serious about that don't enable cookies thing, but even if you're not (benefit of the doubt), giving that type of advice, even as a joke, is completely fucking retarded as it could easily be taken seriously. And if you were being serious, well, I just don't even...

Edit: The best advice I could give is to do as Reki says. Restarting your computer between installs could very well fix the issue. I'd also recommend having your web browser(s) closed when reinstalling the game, just in case.

Probably do what rakiru and Reki suggested. Also, make sure you try non-laggy servers like minit, because it could just be that the server you tried to connect to was bad.
