Someone should make an Aos 2D side scroll game

The original, free Ace of Spades game powered by the Voxlap engine. Known as “Classic,” 0.75, 0.76, and all 0.x versions. Created by Ben Aksoy.

My thoughts of a cartoony 2D AoS:

Image

The rundown:
1. Background blocks to act as supports.
2. 2 Layers. Fore ground/background. Can move to the background but background blocks act like regular blocks when in backgronud.
3. FOW (Fog of war) to support tunneling/hearing for tunnelers. AND:
4. Patterns on blocks to more easily distinguish a block on an invisible grid.
+ That is a Goon Assault example :3

EDIT: Blocks may need to be resized.

Not once you say it's not, but as I just fucking said, you originally said it was a "dream picture", which implies 100% accurate.

it's just a misunderstanding, calm down dudes , no need to send mean messages

it would probably be kind of cool, like soldat based with destructible cubes and building, or like king arthur's gold but with guns. I don't know if I would play it, probably if it was free I would give it a try

Telling people to calm down has never, ever had that effect in my experience. If anything, it does the opposite. Also, I'll stop "sending mean messages" when he stops posting retarded shit (or I become mod and have to be nice).

It would indeed be a fun game. I've actually been considering writing something like this for the past week or so, but I don't know if I have time. I do think someone should do it though.

But AOS2D Should have some specific weapons to make it enjoyable .
1. A Mortar cause in a 2d game making a roof will not waste more then 3blocks and will force players doing something else then just 2block walls
2. A LAW M72 that breaks 3x3 ( like a grenade ) So that its used as a Breach weapon for 1 block thick walls
3. Airstrike should be implanted cause its a weapon that strikes from above.

If you do make this, you pretty much have to program something that makes players invisible to yo when they're not in your line of sight.

If anyone started making this. I would fully support it. It's like gang garrison was the 2d clone of tf2. a 2d clone of AoS sounds like a good idea. I would play it.

I have it, but the servers are usually just snipers only and terrible, or empty.

Yea, tough AoS2D will most likely be like soldat the overall experience should be different

Took quite a while for you guys to mention King Arthur's Gold.

I played it for a day, then it updated and simply stopped working for some reason. Has a nifty votekick system, if someone's a prick you hold tab and click the "votekick" checkbox next to their name or something. Was hella fun when I didn't have to do that.

Hell no. Soldat uses a map format consisting of optionally solid triangles, and a bunch of markers and whatnot.

EDIT: If you're wanting to make this, try Game Maker 4.2a. It's one of the 100% free versions, and the stuff it spits out runs OK in Wine. You'll need to sort out how to do the network stuff, though (I believe it's supported, I just haven't ever been able to test it). Furthermore, you shouldn't rely on pixel perfect collision. Use bounding boxes! (I can't believe I just told someone to use Game Maker)
