Shotguns horribly underpowered, or is it just me?

Anyway to pull this thread back from the derailing: Shotgun is a situational weapon. The problem being it's only real use is for close encounters and maybe, if you can get the right spread, at some limited range. I mean I've gotten fluke long range shotgun kills but mostly due to the spread.

Everyone chooses rifle and SMG due to their universal uses. Rifle is great at keeping players at a distance for the kill and generally is the weapon of choice of campers and infiltrators alike. SMG I see almost always being used for structure sapping and some occasional long range suppressing fire. People who are good with the SMG are not to be forgotten, controlling the recoil is key with the SMG for it to be effective enough to do damage and that takes practice. Sure noobs pick up the SMG initially but I feel the reason they move onto rifle is because they cannot be bothered to get used to the recoil and the rifle generally is the easiest weapon to learn as recoil doesn't affect your accuracy when shooting and it's spread is fairly tight.

As said before maybe tightening the spread/increasing pellet count could be a decent change but sadly that probably will never happen with the conventional client we are used to using.

I wouldn't quite say that, but in the right situation it's the best weapon out of the three.

I'm guessing topic revive was necessary then.

I find shotguns useful mostly in babel, as I'm mostly the person who aims to destroy rather than build.

It is also pretty good for that purpose in Push. If you can get your teammates to suppress the enemy, you can do some serious structural damage to the enemy bridges, even if you don't break them completely.

Shotgun just became my mid-ranger weapon of choice too.

Tested it out on OS earlier, and it doesn't have NEARLY as much spread as I remember. Plus it's got the quick fire rate/reload time, and with the low damage you can get kills up to about 35-40m.

inb4 everybody is using it in-game after reading this

It's because OpenSpades's sights are smaller than the default sights that come with the voxlap client, thus allowing you to get more accurate shots.
