It's good as in it's ability to overpower every weapon at pretty much every range that isn't very far, its damage per hit, and its firing rate.

If you did't understand me, newcomers choose the SMG simply because it outperforms the rifle at almost every circumstance. Sure, an skilled user could use a rifle and take out SMGers with ease, but put 2 equally skilled people, one with an rifle, another with the SMG, and you'll probably find the SMGer will win the majority of the time.

yes, and a smart person would try to push the engagement to his advantage, i.e. guy with the rifle would try to keep his distance and camp. so unless you got really lucky with the spread, have amazing recoil control, use no-rec hacks, are a ninja or teleport, you're fucked with your smg.

With my experience, the SMG actually has lower spread than the rifle, and its spread isn't incredibily random. You would need any of those hacks, the SMG has almost no recoil. Most maps on 0.75 don't have the right conditions for an rifle to excel, why do you think almost everybody is using the SMG?

Or if you are not braindead and is able to place your crosshair in the head that takes 1/3 of the body of a soldier in-game.
Besides, if you are far away enough that you are likely to miss a well placed headshot or bodyshot, then the SMG ain't gonna hit for shit either way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but spread is usually very much random: the cone of fire of a weapon is the area in which a shot will land, at the end of a randomly-determined trajectory.
