I think that there should be a big pop up that appears when you visit the website saying that you should get .76 and ditch .75 because .76 is better because <insert-reasons-why-is-.76-better>.
Keep that till all the important servers and scripts get migrated to .76 and pull the plug on .75 or keep the .75 server list and download link really hidden.

I think the 0.76 will be better for all the players because the nerf the smg. I think most rifleman would be happy in the 0.76. I would like most of the servers be in the 0.76 side and put some in the 0.75 so we can have both and still have them both. You got to admit that 0.76 only has 4 or 3, even lesss!!

Back in the Age Of Ben, when a new version was released, support for the old version was dropped and the master server only ever listed servers for the current version.

I believe I mentioned earlier in this post that not "forcing" people to switch is not a good idea.

Exactly this. This way in the current state, the community is just splitting up in different versions. We should all really be playing one version to be honest with support only for the newest version. I don't see the issue really, it's an update; an improvement. It's not like it's shittier or another game.

It's just pointless that 0.76 was released if we're not really going to make the usual "move" like we used to, then we may as well put 0.76 back into the chest again and not speak of it again; sticking with the retardation of 0.75. Even though it is released, still isn't being used like the latest should be, kind of useless.

We might not have any more updates, but we may as well move to and appreciate the last one we will ever have.

What the fuck

Did you really repost your already-large signature, which is 100% irrelevant to the topic of this thread? Why?

Also, I disagree. If anything, the game needs to be downgraded to 0.60.

Gtfo Doctor, no one cares what you think. lol.

Anyway if it was being downgraded, it needs to go way before 0.60. As it's not, 0.76 stomps.

0.60 is the earliest we'd need to downgrade to if we were to do that, which we aren't due to script compatibility issues and whatnot. All versions after that are slow as fuck on not-Vista/7 and you can't do fake intels all over the map.

We aren’t going to force anyone to do anything. The ethos of AoS has been you play the way you want on the servers you like. Server owners run the servers how they like. You show your support by opting to play. We don’t want to change that; we don’t want to be the central authority dictating how you play AoS and how you run a server. We want players making the transition from 0.75 to 0.76, or any other version we may support in the future, to be smooth, voluntary, and natural.

What have we done and what are we going to do to support and grow the 0.76 playerbase you ask?
  • We have:

Provided master server support for 0.76.

    Provided a download for 0.76.

Released a rough alpha version of the BnS Launcher to allow players to play any version of the game.

    Began a 0.76 league.

Highlighted 0.76 events, organized by members of the community, on the landing page of the site.

    We will:

Make the BnS Launcher much more user friendly. Afterwards making the BnS Launcher the only download option.

Consolidate the multiple serverlist pages to one page. Basically the landing page will have everything you need in order to find the server you want to play on. Be it 0.76 or not. The large AoS trailer will probably be in a hidden div that can be clicked open if you choose.

Release and link to a 0.76 feature server.

Continue to highlight 0.76 events, organized by members of the community.

    Continue running the leagues.
Some of the concerns in the thread are less about 0.75/0.76 and more about player experience. So, what are we going to do to improve player experience?
  • The BnS Launcher is one of our primary solutions for improving the player experience. Anyone familiar with Spadille knows it acted like the front end of the game. It allowed you to customize your settings and player models and then join a game. The BnS Launcher will provide that plus user authentication. Authentication essentially means a registered user on the forums.

Server owners will have the option to only let authenticated, auth’d, users join their server. This opens up a lot of opportunity for server owners, such as, better whitelisting and blacklisting of users. Better user rights, you can join a server and automatically have your rights enabled. No need to log in. Persistent player stats. Etc.

PUGs, Pick Up Games, will be less team oriented than the league. PUGs would be very much goal oriented server that will be created on request and once the game is finished it is closes and reports the outcome to the stat server. We want to offer global persistent PUG stats.

There are also two projects we aren’t directly working on but will definitely improve the player experience and those are FaultCheck’s League Management System and thepolm3’s MIXED.py.

Right now the leagues are being managed from a thread on the forums and a google doc. FaultCheck offered to create a better system. After talking with him about it, it became clear with a handful of tweaks here and there the League Management System could make an awesome Clan Management System. It could provide the features of the old Clan subsections without so much manual oversight.

MIXED.py is a game changer in my eyes once it is thoroughly tested, we will include it in the feature server for both 0.75 and 0.76. Being able to switch gamemodes on the fly is great from a server owner’s perspective but also a great first impression to new players as well. New players can instantly see the versatility of AoS.
Another thing that worries people is an alternative client and how we will support that.

What is an alternative/custom client?
  • It is compatible with pysnip. If it can’t join a server it isn’t an alternative, it is a different game influenced by AoS. We have seen several projects that could be classified as either a true alternative/custom client or a game influenced by AoS. And they have been interesting in their own right. Both are welcome here and as interesting milestones are met we will talk about them in the newsletter.

It is hard to say in any detail how exactly we would support a polished stable fun to play client or AoS influenced game. We definitely want to support both types. But our support wouldn’t be forceful. We aren’t going to say “Build and Shoot is moving to X by Y date, sorry you need to update”.
I know some of you are saying to yourself, “some of those things were promised a few months back”. We are a few months behind schedule on some of our projects that is due to both external and internal factors. We haven’t abandoned the projects; we do plan to deliver them. It is better they are done correctly than rushed. I hope this post helps clear up our stance on several issues.

We shouldn't force people to go to 0.76 but we should recommend them. It would make that little difference to just give players an interest in both version and older versions if the download links are provided. That said, we shouldn't abandon 0.75 but we should just continue on this path and making using the bns launcher easier by providing both versions setup right of the bad.

We already have tabs for both versions. Click "Servers" then pick whatever your heart desires.
