number on minimap arrow

Show the number with which the player has entered the icon on the minimap.
When I play with someone I'd like to figure out who I at my side.
So if on the small arrow in the minimap, was written the number that identifies the player in the list that appears when you press the Tab key, I could hook the player to his position.
another thing:
a grenade that does not cause damage but makes a lot of noise, lots of light and lots of smoke.
and a question
where can I find the API to write a mod? I studied a bit 'of python and I also wrote some MOD for minetest.
