And knowing where it is doesn't help you when the only path up to the right wall in, say, Hallway, forces you to stare into the sun as you climb (meaning you'd have to dig a tunnel through the right wall just to be able to see what's in front of you, which takes a long time). And even if it was a matter of situational awareness, it's a problem that doesn't even exist for more than half the players on the server. So it should be possible to toggle it.
EDIT: On the subject of sun options, it'd be nice to be able to change its size and position (maybe even color?) in the sky- so one could have it just sit dead center at all times.

Of course, it is possible that we're just seeing the fog problem and it's actually the same, but if that's the case, I'd love some developer confirmation so that we aren't just throwing words around for all eternity.
It's also possible that, at the fog border, the shaders make it very hard to see enemies there, and if THAT is the case, then surely they could work out some kind of solution that increases long-range visibility. Like, maybe some special behavior for shaders at those distances, or a new shader that gives polygons clearer borders (though not sobel or cel shading, because that might make them too easy to see).
