Shotguns horribly underpowered, or is it just me?

Hi, am I the only one that thinks shotguns are woefully underpowered? The SMG performs better at it in close range thanks to it's high rate of fire (which means you can spam it for a second or two and it's almost certain you will kill the target) and virtually no recoil imo (which just makes using it much less fun & interesting, as well promoting bad play styles and make the most mediocre of players into a rambo-esque super hero). The SMG also makes most players just mow the battlefield or pray'n'spray, which requires little effort and does all the other things I have mentioned in the brackets previously. It is also careless. At medium range? The shotgun is laughable, while in my experience the SMG is as effective as ever, too effective personally. Long range? You'd be better throwing stones at your enemy, while the SMG is still somewhat viable, and can be used as a sort of support fire. To top this off, the SMG has less bullet spray when in full fire, while the shotgun has more. If I'm correct, the SMG has a faster magazine reload. The shotgun it also much less versatile than the two alternatives.
Now, in comparison to the semi, the shotgun is worse in virtually every way, except maybe for a newbie. A close range, the shotgun is a gamble when not using the scope, while an experienced or skilled semi user can easily run around without a scope getting headshots. A medium range, as I said before, the shotgun is ineffective and can only really be used to wear down structures which would expose you for too long, and there will be better alternatives. Besides this it could be used to make the target perhaps feel vulnerable and move. However it's capabilities at that range end there. Whilst the semi, on the other hand, has no problem taking down enemies at that range, even if just aiming at the body. This makes the semi more so effective because the reload between each shot is quicker for the rifle, and the rifle has a bigger magazine as well as rate of fire. At long range, it's not even worth mentioning the shotgun, while the semi could still be used effectively, arguably even near the end of the fog.
Obviously, in my experience and opinion, the shotgun is like using a water gun in comparison to the other two. If I was to make changes, I would:
Shotgun:
-Make it a longer barrel model, with a longer brake. This will make the distribution and spread of shells narrower, making the gun more effective.
-Alternatively, make the shotgun a double barrel.
-With the single barrel option, make the reload speed between each shot quicker.
-Make the scroll speed while scoped slower, as a result of the first modification.
SMG:
-Increase the recoil and instability of the weapon in both modes, in non-scoped more than the other. When not scoped, the SMG will become much more unstable.
-As you fire the weapon more continuously, the instability and recoil of the weapon will rise. If this is already implemented (I think it is, but it is barely noticeable because there is so little of it), then it will rise.
-Magazine re-loads will be slightly increased.
Semi:
-The total capacity of ammunition will be decreased, perhaps to around 40-30.
-The reload between each shot will be increased from it's current base, due to thermal gain and re-aiming.
-The scroll/rotation speed of it in normal use will be decreased.
-The accuracy will be increased.
All this is my personal opinion, and thus I think it would make a better game experience. Do you have any suggestions, tweaks or changes? Do you simply not agree on some or all of it?
P.S If you could give me some tips or tricks you use during combat it will benefit me greatly, as I don't use the shotgun much since I am ineffective at it, although I have heard of some users on the forums having great success and pleasure (wink wink
) using it.
Thanks for reading!
