Good to know some big-name YouTubers are speaking the truth about the abomination that is now Ace of Spades. We shall still live on my friends!

Lol, Jagex did so much to attract media attention, but it seems that instead of getting people interested in their game, people instead seem to end up here on BnS through bad gameplay experience with 1.0, the fact that this is free, or videos like these. xD

Yum! I knew there was haddock here! Give me my deep fry. In all seriousness, I think he was right on some points, but you could tell he had something out for Jagex. His commentary had a little bit of bias in it.

I want to chime in here because I was one of the original admins for the original community and from my perspective TotalHalibut summarizes the cause of the split between AoS Classic and AoS Steam pretty accurately at 18:40.

It's a shame really. It's a lot of lost potential. I suppose that's what happens when you buy a game that looks neat but have no real understanding of what it involves. You didn't make the game. You didn't really understand what your end goal was with it. You release your version, so what do you aim to achieve here? You don't have an answer because you just flat out don't know.
It's true that Jagex took their own direction with the game, which was very different from the community's vision. The community didn't just play the game, they were actually part of it; their input contributed to its success.

When Jagex first started getting actively involved with the community, their community managers did so quietly with admins - not members - of the community. They promised "not to step on any toes" and they wanted to know what they could do to assist us. We went out of our way to try to help them understand the significance of the community and what was best for everyone as well as Ace of Spades, but for me personally I felt like I was talking to someone who was looking away thinking about something else.

Their motives conflicted with the community's natural growth and when we would express our perspectives about that they had a very unreceptive attitude. Eventually they abruptly ceased communication with the community and pushed on with their own agenda. The end result is the Ace of Spades that's available on Steam right now.

I'm not saying they or we were right or wrong, I'm just saying they approached the situation in a way that was very different from what the original community wanted. danhezee, Stack, and I realized what was happening and we knew we had to do something for the community; hence the existence of BuildAndShoot.com.

Now our primary focus surrounds Ace of Spades Classic, but we'll continue working with Jagex wherever possible to improve both versions of the game.

Good stuff Izzy. I also hope he does a WTF is or WTFree on this version of the game :)

F*cking hell izzy, I couldn't have put it better myself. I just want to say thanks right now for you, stack, Enari, danhezee, TGM and anyone else who has gone to so much effort to save the game and community that we all love and are a part of. The unique thing about AoS is that it is the community that makes this game successful, even more so than games like Minecraft. It is the people that have taken their time to organise clans we play with, create the maps we fight on, craft the weapons we use, but far above all else, the people that have spent countless hours of their time and hundreds of dollars of their money hosting and administrating our favorite servers. Ace of Spades would not be the strong game and community with out all the people who have played and contributed to its success since early 2011, but the greatest thanks must be extended to the Community staff, because with out them AoS would be nothing!

I like how he mentions the idea of having a lockdown for five to ten minutes just to build, and then a release where people go infiltrate to capture the Intel. I haven't heard of that idea in a long time. When Ben Owned the game that came very close to happening.

yeah, that used to be a pretty frequent idea a while ago. I think some people might have actually tried it once, I'm not sure though.

I didn't watch all of his video, I just skipped to some parts and I agree with him talking about the animations.

I think he moreso agrees that the original is better (considering he put links to it in the description, although i wish it was to BnS Xd)

the thing in my eyes about the original is that it was a beta and not a finished game, so it can sort of get away with having such sloppy stuff, where the full game that you have to pay for should have animations that other average FPS games have. I haven't played the new one, so I don't know if it is better or not, but it doesn't look like they put very much thought into some areas.

It's also sort of similar to minecraft, that game had some pretty good potential but it was lost when the full game's price got doubled and there was still tons of developer art and placeholders in it. If you're going to release a game, then it should be done. There's nothing wrong with adding stuff onto it, but it shouldn't take 6 months to get an update to finalize a part of the game that was supposed to already be there, just release it when it's finished. aos 1.0 was probably just rushed, or they felt that it didn't matter enough to add small details that nearly every other decent game has

You just gave me an idea for a gamemode...
