I Can't Run The Game

Hi, I'm new here, but that doesn't matter right now.
I installed this game, eager to play it rather than the crappy Jagex version, and it did not work.
I did what the "How to Play" page said, (click on a server and the game will start) and nothing happened.
What am I doing wrong? I will be glad to add more details to my problem if I have to.

No, don't use Chrome to run it. It mangles the aos:// numbers.
Also don't ever suggest IE. That's just asking someone to give themselves AIDS.
Firefox should be fine.
If you're having any issues, learn how to use the commandline,
cd your way to where you installed Ace of Spades, and type something like this in:
That's an actual aos:// number (it points to Minit Testdrive), but you can stuff whatever valid aos:// numbers you like in there.

That single line of text you just typed in there, dear sir, is the worst pile of bullshit I've ever read.
What do you mean by that it "mangles" the numbers? I've been using chrome to launch AoS for around 2 years, and I've never experienced anything alike what you are describing.
By "numbers", I suppose you mean the SIDs. If that is the case, then I can't see how chrome is supposed to "mangle" them.
Listen, what Chrome, Firefox, IE, and pretty much all other browsers do when they encounter a non-standard URI, is that they search through the windows registry for a registered URI matching the one passed to the browser, and then if they find one, they will read a specific registry key which contains a program to run, and run it in the shell with the parameters specified by the registry key.
I obviously fail to understand how any of the above routines can affect the number in the URI. If you feel that I've forgot something important, or disagree, then please let me know.

How dare you IE is the best browser ever made.

IE is terribad. There is no such thing as security, as using IE is a complete invitation to a hacker. It says, "Hey! I'm an easy target! I'm practically a 12 year old kid who doesn't know anything about security or viruses!". Plus its slow as all heck. On average, you get about 22 lines of malicious code per site that you visit on IE. There are other FAR superior browsers that AREN'T an open invitation for hackers.

Are you sure that you're not using an outdated chromium-based browser?
According to the World Wide Web Consortium, with 30% browser market share Google Chrome is the most used browser in the world. And there's no doubt that this community is an exception. Honestly, I've never heard or read of anything like this.
Is this problem based on personal experience?
If so, I
STRONGLY advise you to go to
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/ immediately to get the latest patch, and stop filling the minds of innocent newbies with things you have no level of understanding of.
But if this is rather something you have read somewhere or heard from someone, then I can ensure you that it has been fixed... whatever it was.
Thank you.

Doesn't Chrome have an auto-updater? I remember reading the information about their update method and how important this is to them.
And although I've never seen the number mangling (I don't use it as my main browser though, as in my experience, Chrome is a slow, resource-hungry piece of shit), I do know that Chrome can fuck up with custom protocol handlers. so that's another reason many people have difficulties launching it from Chrome.

Do people have problems launching the game from chrome in general?

Please describe.
If anyone here have trouble launching it from Chrome, try downloading a different chromium-based browser. Chances are that the problem is fixed... but if not, then it might be something in the chromium kernel.

Alternatively, use a browser that's actually good. ;P
Acorn made a thread on this somewhere, but the issues GreaseMonkey and I are pretty much all that's to it.
