I recommend either bandicam or a cracked version of Fraps if you want good free screen recording software. Note that Fraps creates very large filesizes, so getting a compressor is usually in order.

get a codec, not a compressor.

I use Fraps. Works perfectly for me.

Using your mobile camera works great too.

Dxtory if you play opengl games like minecraft or directx games. So Openspades is opengl you can record it and it didn't lag even though i have crappy laptop.

I paid for my version of fraps. it's only 20 bucks and it's good software. don't be that cheap. writing software is hard work!

fraps doesn't compress their videos which is good because it doesn't use up CPU. but it writes very large files to disk which is bad because if you are saving it to primary drive (where windows is) it'll tie up your disk and cause a drop in fps. the higher the resolution the bigger the performance impact.

video compression software is free, in my opinion VLC media player does a pretty decent job. probably not pro but makes it small enough to work with/upload to youtube.

Fraps ought to work fine. Buy it, steal it, recode it from scratch; it'll work. I advise having a minimum of 20 GB free hard drive space, though, as the average file size I seem to get is 1.3-1.5 GB.
