What will the future hold?

Where do you think the future will bring us? As a community we have been losing member sense people found out about jagex. As a game voxlap will live as long as people host servers. Even if B&S chose to close spaddle has a tool to get the URL of a server. For 1.0, well jagex has already lost alot of money. Unless they fix the problems and lessen to the community 1.0 will go only one way, down. In my opinion the community itself can last another year but people are getting tired of playing the same thing over and over. Though I dont think we will die but perhaps move on to better games as the komrades have with star craft2. For build and shoot, well it is a community. I can not say how long it will really last or if we will get new players. So what do you think? what will the future bring for us, for voxlap, for jagex?

I'd say it depends on how strongly the part of the community that is involved with programming can push and continue to update and keep the game alive that way.

From what I've seen there's been a hell of an effort so far, and it's fairly hopeful. As it stands, the best thing anyone can do if they can't program is to promote B&S and get more people into classic AoS. Keep the community alive that way as the community works on improving the game on their own impetus.

Basically, our only hope is IceBall.

If you are an able programmer, any little bit helps (as long as it isn't buggy).

IceBall is definitely not in a presentable state. We need people, who can dedicate their time and efforts to it.

I would argue that it is. While the graphics may not be as good as voxlap and it's lacking sound, it's perfectly playable.

Playable and presentable are 2 different things.

Sure we mat be able to play wolfenstein 3D, but in this day and age it simply isn't presentable.

Having been doing a decent amount of testing with Iceball I would assert that in certain respects the graphics are limiting playability. Try to dig a deep, complex tunnel from the cliffside upwards and you have basic usability problems because the rendering quality is too poor to make the walls, floor, and ceiling easily distinguished, especially when looking directly upwards. As well, the lighting gradients that were a useful depth cue are completely absent. Although it's still possible to puzzle out what's going on if you take your time, it does not give the same experience as digging in Voxlap, which is a really major part of the "classic AoS" experience.

We are "using" voxlap, that is why B&S was founded and why we have a master server for the game. I am just saying that alot of people have been getting bored and am asking what will the future hold for this small community we have made.

And although it's possible to rebuild the game from scratch, it would take ages. Remember how long does developing Ace of Spades takes Ben? 2 fucking years. Thank god he still need time to think about concepts too, but no one could wait that long.
