The Time for Indecision is Over

We're creeping on the 1 year anniversary of Build and Shoot's official release to the public and there's one glaring problem with the site that anyone who has not been on since November 5, 2012 would be able to recognize in an instant. Can anyone tell me what that is?

Nothing has changed.

I check these forums at least every day, if not more often, and anyone with half a brain can see that this game has stagnated almost completely. I'm not talking about in terms of raw playercount, as that seems to be at least somewhat consistent, but I'm talking about content, new players, and game experience. Simply put, we've been playing the same game (Ace of Spades 0.75) for roughly two years now with minimal change (besides losing many people who were valuable for organizing events/clans/etc.) Sure, the admins have set up leagues and clan matches, but what has that really changed? I, personally, could not give two shits about the leagues considering I myself have grown bored of Ace of Spades version 0.75.

That being said, something needs to be changed. Something needs to be new. The admins need to put something (*cough* Iceball *cough*) up in a big global announcement and plaster the portal in red letters and change "BuildAndShoot.com is a player-run community for the free and highly addictive game known as Ace of Spades. Login to play the game, interact with others, and customize your experience — It's all 100% free" to "WE'RE MOVING TO X," announcing that this is what we're going to do and this is how much time you have to change before we end support for the old and bring in the new. For now, we've gotten by on the publicity that Jagex's Ace of Spades has given us and the fact that the real Ace of Spades is a genuinely entertaining game. But how long can that last? If this community wants to continue, then something needs to change and it needs to happen soon now.

I really think there needs to be a "complete bundle" download, which is recommended, similar to the launcher, which includes Iceball, Powerthirst, and Openspades along with .75 and .76 (assuming the owners of said projects allow it).

Also requiring players to register on the forums would be nice too.

Why would they end support for any version? Trying to nudge everyone over to another version will only upset the people that still play that one.

Because the overwhelming majority wants to see change in a big way, but to put these changes into place, realistically, we've got to cut off/discourage support for some things somewhere. (Namely Ace of Spades 0.75)

You've got to break a few eggs to make an omelette.

You have a good point but I, for one, see the people that are so stubborn that they would rather quit the game than switch as acceptable losses when compared to the players that we potentially could attract and retain by moving on to a superior version.

Also, as an after-note to my OP, I think it would also be a good idea to advertise Build and Shoot (somehow, perhaps more so through word of mouth campaigns than paid advertising seeing as we don't have that kind of money) after this change has been made. That way we could replace the players who refuse to update and possibly gain more.

I hate that I have to keep asking this, and I know it sounds sarcastic and asshole-y, but what makes 0.76 the superior version? I'm only asking because I've had maybe 20 minutes of playtime with it as of lately, and all I really noticed was the font renderer was different, and I wasn't much of a fan.

The framerate is better (from what I've heard)
The weapons are balanced better

and...

Yeah, that's pretty much it. But still, everyone wants 0.75 to be updated to 0.76.

I agree, I came back after a year and nothing has really changed. Aimbotters are rampant on most the servers, even the ones with admins. Granted I understand that 0.76 wont be hacker free for long but at least it will take a while before they are widely distributed.

I have tried to get a few people to play but honestly when you get shot over and over again from obvious aimbotters, it is hard for them to stay interested. Also, due to the rampant cheating most people with any ounce of skill get called cheaters constantly and it is a pain in the ass to /admin to ask for the votekicks to be stopped. Half the time that doesn't even work.

Haven't tried iceball or any of the other versions/mods simply cause from what I have read they are less populated than even the 0.76 servers.

TBQH Iceball is a way better choice than version 0.76, especially since it's open-source AFAIK.

Framerate i get is the same on both versions - ~40 fps
Weapons balanced? Lol what. I don't see it

The only thing I see 0.76 as is an "official" version to use to prevent usage of (public) hacks. I'm moreover the impression that the latter of the community simply want to switch due to the insatiable desire for "progress" in the game.

Perhaps if the admins pushed towards it instead of simply giving it an idle mention, somebody with dev experience would feel encouraged to step up to the plate and continue where Grease left off. And there are people here who I feel would be competent and motivated enough to do it, such as the guy who made OpenSpades (ytk).
