Prior to the release of Ace of Spades we will need to take the prototype offline. This won't happen until the 1st of December so you have all of November to play the prototype. With so many fans taking an active role in supporting Ace of Spades we thought it was only fair to let you know as soon as we could. We are sure that you have lots of questions so make sure you attend the Q&A with the Producer on Wednesday 7th November at 6pm GMT.
If you are an existing player, you are more than welcome to continue playing the prototype of Ace of Spades. If you want to try it for the first time, then it is not a long wait until the release of Ace of Spades and there are many screenshots and videos on their way so you can see how good Ace of Spades is.
We will see you on the battlefield.

Will you allow people to host their own servers for 1.0 or do we have rent servers?
Arash:
We at Jagex will host the servers. This should give you security and maintenance service that means your games will run better.

How will 1.0 play differently from the prototype? What sets is so far apart from the prototype? What makes 1.0 worth the money?
Arash:
We are packing lots of features into 1.0. We don't want to say all of this right now. But imagine levels, classes, weapons, and lots of new stuff that is clean and fun! With cool music.
As we release new information you will see how much effort we have put into it
EDIT2: Even more sad, sad, terrible news. From Sniped:

There is not a lot I can really say to what you have added. It seems that you don't like what we are doing and that is fine, however there is nothing in your post which resembles a question for me to answer. We have made our position known and the reasons why and disseminated this information in a variety of ways. However, it boils down to the fact we want ensure good quality across all the servers that players play on. The only way we can do this is if we control them all.
On this issue the only answer I can give which will placate some players is that we are going to allow players to host their own servers. However, that is not going to happen and it would be really unfair to lie to you like that. So, I'll open the same offer to you as I did to Dom, if you have any other questions please ask them. As there is nowhere for this discussion to go, I think I will lock this thread.
^No more player hosted servers, ever.

I think this is a terrible way to go, considering they haven't updated the game in 7 months. What happens if they end up ending the "prototype" and fail to release the official version when they say it will come out?

IKR.
I have given up on Jagex. I ain't stickin' around.
Presuming OpenGL Master Race (which we don't agree), the voxlap series is a prototype, rather than a beta, from my understanding; as far as I know, 1.0 is substantially different from the voxlap series.
Relative to us, of course, 1.0 is a clone.
EDIT: I believe we can host replacement server.exes / pyspades branches / client.exes (for old versions like 0.35 where it MUST get the IP from whatismyip) which use altered iplookup / master server stuff.

If we're lucky, we'll have our own version to work with, and those good ole' dedicated server hosts will be glad to host servers prior to the AoS version will be playing on that has no affiliation with the release from Jagex.
