There is, in fact, an 0.76 beta available. It just doesn't get a lot of play.

To make a long story (which has been told many many times) there is NO source code available. There are some folks making great headway with completely re-writing the game as Project Iceball.

Buffet has pretty much summed this one up, iceball does have a source code you can modify though if you want to add something to it.
