What is happening

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what is going on and people mixing up different projects, so here's some clarification:
  • There is no Build and Shoot game. This community is mainly centred around the existing versions of Ace of Spades and continuing to play and support them. The closest thing to a Build and Shoot game is Iceball, a new game with similar gameplay that is being developed by Greasemonkey, a member of this community.
  • The "master server" that you may have seen talked about is a server that all the game servers connect to. This is how the server list is populated. If you don't understand this, you don't need to worry about it - it is not a game server that you can play on.
  • The master server will be for all versions of Ace of Spades, any possibly other games such as Iceball.
  • There is no new version of pyspades. There is no reason for a new version. The existing version will be updated as needed, but it is not being rewritten. The naming suggestion thread is so there is a clear difference between pyspades and our continuation of it.

Simplified diagram of how master server works. I hope it will clarify how ace of spades actually works.

I need one clarification: will Build and shoot maintain some sort of master server for ace of spade .75? And will it eventually have a master server for Iceball, whenever that comes out?

I think Iceball should take the route of Minecraft.

What do you mean by that exactly?

Ah sorry let me clarify. I meant I think Iceball should go the way of Minecraft in the server connection area.

Minecraft allows you to connect to servers and favorite certain ones. But there is no master list. You have to manually type in the IP (or copy and paste it) every time you want to join said server (unless it is favored obviously)

That would mean the loss of instantly knowing what map and game mode you were going to play before you even entered. I liked being able to search for specific maps, or avoid servers currently hosting bad gamemodes/maps.

That's like a downgrade.

That does indeed sound like a downgrade. You can have a favourites list as well as a master list, you know. Take a look at any source engine game for example.

Edit: Edited the first post with master server game support info.
