Problems with Playing any Server

Whenever I try clicking on any server, it just says initderectdraw failed: 0x80004001
does anyone know how to fix this?

Possible solution 1:
From a bit of Googling this means that Windows was not able to set the resolution to whatever the default is (I think it's 640x480 or 800x600) because it's too low or outright invalid.
Are you using the launcher? If so, start the launcher and examine the config file. Be sure that your resolution is set to something that matches your monitor but is less than about 1280x720.

Sounds like you're using XP. Go to Desktop -> Properties -> Settings (you should be at the monitor resolution menu) -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot -> Hardware acceleration and turn the bar a few notches down.
