The Popularity Issue

Well guys, now that we are a few weeks into BuildandShoot, I'm noticing that we're not getting as many steady members now that things have turned a little less active. That's somewhat reasonable because the supply of old community members has dried up, but should we really just be attracting the old community? So I'd like to request that any Youtuber or blogger or any streamer make an AoS LP, since without videos, we are going to be unable to attract the world at large.

When an open-source clone is ready. We should really hit the indie gaming stuff hard.

I can't make an AoS LP because they suck and they're boring, and I'm boring, so instead, I'll edit.

B&S is getting popular, slowly and steady. Right now Ace of Spades is at cult status

Actually, we've been receiving more traffic gradually as well as increased player counts

Does playing since Jan 2012 count as an "Old" community player?

Yes any member who played before the jagex schism is considered an old community player

The player count can be seen slowly rising here: http://aoswiki.rakiru.com/webpages/playercount.html

I have a horrible voice to do a commentary, so I'm pretty sure I'm with josh on the editing.

Yes, I know that we are getting people. But this traffic is going to get slower and steadier over time, and then... it'll be stagnant. Just like .75. Then our playercount will start decreasing at a recursive rate, slowly at first, but finally all that will be left of B&S will be a core group of players surrounded by the occasional members. And there will be no more ambition to run servers, or create new programming like Iceball, or any of the current projects that we are doing right now.

And this is why we need popularity. Currently, our player count is somewhat directly related to Jagex's. The more people who actually check out the real Ace of Spades, the more people who rage and look at BuildandShoot. But this raises another issue: what happens when the real Ace of Spades dies? The old community is already joined B&S, we have no supply to feed on, and we consequently die too. Considering the level of indie competition these days, Ace of Spades will be completely forgotten.

Unless... we become more independent and start seeking out players on Youtube and other sources who will think "Hey, this is a really cool game," and avoid all of the "real" Ace of Spades crap, and head straight for buildandshoot. In this way, the community could be big enough to make Iceball popular and stand up to the advertising level "Ace of Spades - Jagex Style" has.

I've been trying to get content out about Ace of Spades on YouTube. I've got 4 more videos which I hope to get out sometime tomorrow or Saturday on my channel.

In the future, BnS will most likely move away from Ace of Spades classic and more towards Iceball.

Then once Stack, Izzy, Dan and the rest are all gone, Ace of Spades classic will disappear from the world entirely... and Iceball will have it's time in the sun, and then it to will go away.

Ace of Spades 1.0 will lose millions of dollars and Jagex will ultimately add even more P2W elements to Runescape to make up for it. Subsequently making everybody at the Runescape zone rage and quit. Thus losing all sources of income for Jagex. Thus making them close down.

What we are trying to avoid.
