You mean .70 obviously. I wasn't aware that Ben made the source code available to anyone else.

Whether or not Jagex has the name, me and a group of Indie devs are actually working with the code of the old 7.0 vers of the original AoS code that Aksoy made, to create a new game that retains some of the classic feel such as the customization of weapons, players, flags et cetera, to generated maps, and much of the abilities of the old one. Due to legality we obviously can't use Ace of Spades as the name, but since Jagex is now using a different code and engine, we're going to keep it on the Voxlap engine, which is open sourced thanks to Ken Silverman wanting people to make games from his engine. We haven't decided a name on it yet, but we'll have a site up within the coming months showing our work, on remaking the old AoS into something better and fun, without doing what Jagex did and derailing the entire game. With our ideas over the game, player input will be a must so instead of doing what we want, suggestions once the site is up that get the most hits will become apart of the game. Also, one thing we'd love to implement is a fully integrated anti-hack program that would globally-ban, since as players of Aksoy's original AoS were rather annoyed of the used of Injections in the game to hack. Just keep an eye on the webs for us. Green_Wink1
wut. There is no way you have AoS source, but assuming you are still trying to remake, use my port of voxlap while you are at it, and make it compatible with existing servers.

And then we discover that he is Ben.

Heh, that's much more likely than you think.

You'd need clearance from Ben to do that, although you'll need one where all the rights are attributed to him, so maybe 0.52 or earlier. I suspect it won't be terribly difficult to get clearance were it not for the fact that Ben very rarely surfaces these days.

Mind clarifying what version you actually have?

By the way, if you're the guy who wrote the font renderer, IT WAS FUCKING AWFUL, DON'T RECREATE IT.

If you have one of the versions from 0.61 onwards, I can confirm that you probably do have the source if you explain how the font renderer works, and maybe post some snippets.

Otherwise, feel free to post the lines of code that call enet_host_connect.

I'm not sure if it fits the OSI definition of Open Source, as you cannot use it for commercial purposes without throwing lots of money at Ken. I have a feeling there's an awful lot of intertwining with the Voxlap code, so it'd be hard to separate it off if you want to go with a more conventional F/LOSS licence.

Start by posting screenshots ASAP. By ASAP I mean in the next few days. You'll also want to create a thread on these forums. (This section will do. If it's not appropriate for this section, the admins will move it to the right section. Trust me, I know this.)

Jagex were very good at not saying a damn thing, then several weeks later saying that there's something coming while leaving us in the dark, trying to hype us. I'm extremely skeptical of people hyping things, mostly because I know it's going to be complete shit targetted at little kids.

So as soon as you read this, get some screenshots and post them.

Also, consider removing the SMG: http://buildandshoot.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=796

As posted there:
  • 35% said the SMG made the game better (37/107)
  • 40% said the SMG made the game worse (43/107)
  • 25% said the SMG made the game about the same (27/107)
It was an almost unanimous view that the 0.75 SMG is fucking horrible and in desperate need of a nerf, but the poll didn't capture that. Seriously, read the posts.

If the SMG does 75 headshot damage, scale that WAY back, because otherwise your version will fucking SUCK. 34,30,21 (head, body, limb) is much more reasonable.

But yeah, my suggestion is to just get rid of that piece of shit.

Or just keep updating the game so all the pointers change and whatnot.

Having said that, the best way to do this is to have an easily-bypassable but easily-triggerable antihack which pops up a MessageBox asking people nicely to not release their hacks.
