Exactly, there are too many 24/7 servers that host only one map. That's stupid. Ace of Spades suppose to be full of cool maps. But idiots host falt 24/7 maps. Worse of them all is hallway.

But seriously, I think praying to the Gods of Iceball would be a better approach.
Edit: I have come up with a near-foolproof way of enjoying hallway servers. I call it batmanning.
1. Enter enemy spawn area on hallway
2. Get on top of medium sized building, preferably with stairs.
3. shoot around a bit, attract attention
4. Wait until people begin to come up the stairs
either
A. Jump directly on their heads
B. Jump off building, run up stairs and spade them in back
5. Repeat for 15 minutes or so

yeah, this game is very boring and not very fun at all. I think we should just switch to a different version of this game, whatever the most frequently updated and stable thing is would be good. banning maps like hallway and pinpoint is also a good idea, I think it'd actually be best with just randomly generated maps.
really though the current two versions are not that good, I think a reason why many people played was in hope that this game would get better, and it didn't. if whatever version(iceball/openspades) is updated at a decent pace, and goes in a different direction, it'll probably turn out a lot better. the older versions weren't really that great, they were just less stupid

Banish Hallway and pinpoint should have happen long time ago. Get ride of servers in the list that are using these maps and have one map 24/7. Put ones that actually are good and have great maps.

You realize banning maps and gamemodes kind of goes against the whole idea of user-hosted open source servers, right?

In addition, I'm not sure what you mean by having the same gamemode constantly. A few buggy, extremely recent scripts aside, we've never been able to change gamemodes without taking the servers down first. It's always been like this.

And here we are today, similar to as we were 2 years ago, staying at around 600-800 players. Except I do not see a bright future.Because....
Iceball was here 2 years ago.
Openspades was here 2 years ago.
Powerthrist was here 2 years ago.
Jagex's Intervene has affected the AoS community. It got us off our asses and fix the community. We ARE at a good position, considering this:
-The Original Developer of a Indie game is gone
-A Major Company is competing with a fansite for a game they bought
-Half of the community is gone, the rest filled with foriegn gamers.
If you asked me what gameplay would be like in two years, I would have enthusiastically and optimistically painted a landscape of a nondescript trench warfare game with some weapons, maybe a Mounted Machinegun, 64 players, essentially a polished version of .75Oh, you mean like in the videos of AoS OpenGl?
Yeah... Telling us what you want that was actually being developed WITH VIDEO isn't a very imaginative.
Where are we? Well, it's basically about 8 or so servers hosting various Arena and TDM gamemodes, with babel and CTF being the exceptions. Most of these servers are hosting Hallway, Pinpoint, Nuketown, etc. Aside from these few servers, everything else is empty.Well no shit, if the server is populated then players like it. If it doesn't fit YOUR preferences, thats fine. But your saying its ruined because other people like gamemodes you don't?
And people wonder why the masses still seem very uninterested in .75? (hint: it's not the Steam Version)I'll tell you what I've heard.
"GRAPHICS ARE TERRIBLE"
Also, you seem to be basing all your points from gabriel.
We are the problem. When people weren't arguing about rifle/smg/shotgun balance on the old forums, there was a general consensus that Ace of Spades should not be Arena/TDM shooter #238424 where all the players are 12. And that's honestly what has happened.Yes, people trying to make a future for Ace of Spades is a problem!
Also, I love how you haven't pointed out hackers. "ITS CAUSE OF GAMEMODES OMGGG"
A huge amount of the original community has left Ace of Spades, and that's because it doesn't feel like Ace of Spades anymore. It's TDM or CTF on some flat map where you can't tunnel or dig trenches, its arena where you can't even build at all, its babel on the same old island maps (seriously I'm fucking sick of these bright colored island maps covered in buildings already, they all play the same)No shit, they left cause of AoS 1.0, because they haven't heard of BnS. Look at how many veterans are returning.
They AREN'T leaving because of a avoidable gamemode. Also, Arena is of course where you can't build. If you COULD build you would have bunkers of hackers everywhere. If your sick of babel maps, make your own server.
I've thought this through so much and I'm still not sure what can be done. Basically, I'm disappointed in how 90% of the populated servers are Jagex's AoS lite without the shitty gimmicks and classes. You don't know what can be done, huh?
So you have no hope for Iceball.
Greeeeeat.
Jagex doesn't have Arena. Jagex doesn't have people in their community who shit on everyone's preferences.
Jagex's community doesn't say that its ruined when people like a gamemode that they don't. You clearly don't know what the problems with 1.0 is.

If your "preference" is arena then get the fuck out of here and play Counter Strike or some shit.
The whole point of this thread is that people like you showed up, demanding these shitty ass maps and arena gamemodes, then complain when we want our old game back. The reason everyone left is because of people like you. And trust me, Iceball definitely has a future, but Iceball is not Ace of Spades.
Until the admins here at BnS pick a side instead of passively trying to please everyone, then the game is going to stagnate.
I can see why Grease left.

Until something changes, you can't "just go host your own server!1!!1". The current community just wants to play these arena modes and flat maps, and when people come back wanting to play the old Ace of Spades, they see arena and leave. At this very moment, it is impossible to have the game be both arena crowd friendly and genmap crowd friendly.
BnS either needs to pick a side, or make the site more friendly to all groups by adding sever lists for projects like Iceball, and no longer advertising .75 any different from other versions.
Now please go re-read this thread so I can stop re-iterating what I said before.
