I had put this in another thread that I have closed by now, so I'll quote it here.

As you all know, the BnS/AoS community has been dying for some time now, and it's become more pronounced now with player counts dropping below server count at PST midnight. Sadly, most people are just sitting around and watching it all wither and crumble away. As iconic and stereotypical as this sounds, we must do something about this and now, for if we do it any later it may be the last we see of this magnificent game.

For the last 1-2 months(?), LeCom has been developing a new game called VoxelWar, heavily based off of Ace of Spades. Now, this might just seem like another clone but it does have pretty heavy implications on where the community could go. You see, while we do have our own software for hosting, and we have our custom master server, there's something we don't have; The original Ace of Spades source.

Since Jagex has bought Ace of Spades, we can't do much if anything with it. Even if we managed to obtain the source code of the game, BnS would be crushed by Jagex and their copyrights. However, VoxelWar, as similar to Ace of Spades as it is, is still technically community-made and therefor Jagex has no power over it (feel free to correct me on this, I'm afraid I'm not a lawyer). Even more, since this community (or at least LeCom considering he wants it closed-source) has the code and rights to VoxelWar, we can make as many additions as we like.

More additions, more content.

Secondly, we still wouldn't have a lot of players so we would need to do something with youtubers. I believe youtubers directly hold the key to videogame popularity and using this power can bring a lot more players in. But we must make a switch to LeCom's client, otherwise there is no more new content, and interest will die down just as it has over the few years.

Ace of Spades itself might not be around as we know it, but it is still the backbone of Lecom's game and the community will most likely thrive just the same way.

VXW is planned to become open-source once a proper community is established. It's also a lot different from AoS 0.75/0.76, trying to have the gameplay of the first AoS versions.
Btw, the question is whether the community actually wants to change to another game.

I'll be honest here and just say that VXW feels like ealier versions of AoS that got switched to another developer. It feels too similar to the original AoS to be called another game.

That's the point. The current AoS is very CoD-like. You can consider the original/old AoS a different game than 0.75 and 0.76

"Support" has many connotations, such as spreading the game through word of mouth, but I think people have overlooked the fact that making games cost money now, i.e. financial support. I suggest to we should set up a donation link.

It's no guarantee it will generate money but if someone's willing to do so, a link to a donation page is enough.

Disclaimer though, donations aren't necessarily effective in the long run. So if the game intends to improve beyond the scope of what AoS had before, then that's when funding comes in.

No dude, it's possible to make a big and epic game without spending a cent. It costs you a bit of time, depending on the programmer and skills etc. It's just an impression cause today, merely any game gets developed for free.

the only things we can do is

fuck off
let bns die
if you really want to, move to vxw
and let it all fucking die

not coming back after leaving without no contributions and calling yourself a "member of the community" and say what has already been said a thousand times (and when the community was 'more alive') and say "uh no this time it's different we can make it change!!1!" when the community's dead.
