The SMG is a wreck. Sure the rifle is a one hit kill headshot, But the SMG is virtually a one hit kill if you hold down the trigger for one second and aim remotely around someones head. Totally broken.

The rifle kicks ass once you get how to aim for the head, I've been votekicked a few times just for getting a killfeed from headshots. the SMG is not best in all situations, only at medium range is it dangerous. It also has just enough spread to make it ineffective at long range versus a rifle, that can (with the right guy behind it) explode the brains of any player with a single round, compared to a weapon that unless used when you can get close the target, is going to miss a lot of round or get a few lucky potshots.
In conclusion, the SMG isn't extremely OP, it's a weapon that fires fast enough to increase your chances of a long-range kill.

hmm, if smg was faster or something maybe it would outgun riflers close range..I see what you mean though..
Or maybe make rifle 2 shot waist up but a tad slower fire rate.

We need to have someone work on the code and fix that if the SMG is overpowered. Or you should balance that out by increasing damage resistance. But a 1 hit KO with a rifle is not overpowered.

Not normally but if you decreased the smg's range you would also have to make the rifle not effective in close range, hence the 2 shot kill.

If you didnt know, in 0.76 the smg was nerfed a little, the headshot damage was lowered, and it takes longer to break blocks. Still op at close range.

Considering that the fire rate of the rifle is so slow, you have to be more accurate to get that kill. If you miss the first shot, you probably won't get the chance to take a second.

Rifle fire rate is slow... MUHAHAHAHA.... When I can headshot 2 shotty users and one smg user at close range who have barely just fired at me, I declare the rifle a fricking assault rifle. Well an assault rife with only 1/6 the fire rate and extremely dangerous ammunition.

The rifle's firerate is slow when compared with the SMG, as I was doing. The SMG user can spray several bullets at you in the time it takes your gun to be ready for the second shot.

People, the SMG was just overpowered because of damage. It needs to have a slower ROF. And the model changed to an Assault Rifle. SMG's could get 2 bullets to make a headshot. Lower the RoF and you have time to duck out of the bullet's second headshot. The shotgun just needs less spread (not talking about a huge decrease in spread) or a bit more damage.

To be honest, we should have gotten a MMG like everyone was asking for at the time. I feel like the SMG was just a shitty way to keep people interested while Ben was working on other stuff.

That is what they did in 1.0 they OP'd everything.

I really dont think the smg was the weapon that ruined the game. The weapons have turned out to be hard to balance. Several updates since their introduction and they still haven't got a nice rock paper scissors balance to them. But it or the shotty didnt ruin the game. Auto-climb was the single most destructive thing to happen to the game. The need to do more than run and gun disappeared.
