Anyone know a good and free screen recorder to record playthroughs of Ace of Spades? Thanks.

Bandicam lets you record up to 10m and it works fine for ace of spades Blue_Happy1

Sucks.

Since you didn't have a period, I finished the sentence for you.

I wouldn't user Hypercam, as I believe it leaves a watermark on your video (I'm not sure if you have to pay to remove this, or simpyl jsut register). The best free one I know of is
Code: Select all
CamStudio
.

I haven't used a free one in a long time though (because Dxtory is awesome), so there may be better ones out there that I don't know of.

If you are talking about Ace of Spades classic, Bandicam would probably be best because of the fact that Ace of Spades classic uses DirectX and Bandicam works really well for DirectX programs. If you are talking about Ace of Spades 1.0, you may not want to use a free screen recorder. Dxtory or Fraps would be really good. You can get them free from certain downloads but no one is going to provide you with links to any. If you have a fairly low-end computer (not a gaming computer), Dxtory is probably your best bet because the fact that it doesn't use as much memory as Fraps would. If you have a fairly good computer, either or will work great.

Then why does the "sucks" have a capital letter? :)

I don't really know because I use Fraps, but some of my friends recommended this to me some time ago.

Does it matter? No...

I was reading the CNet reviews of Cam Studio and they said it was utterly horrible.

Most free ones (all that I've tried) are varying degrees of horrible. That's why I ponied up the 25 quid for dxtory.

Good free screen recorder?
Instead of looking through all the crappy ones, get a trial version of the paid ones.

Trials of the paid ones tend to be limited in ways that make them unsuitable for most tasks. For example, the fraps demo is limited to 30 seconds of recording at once, if I remember correctly.

Camtasia Studio is my absolute favorite.

It has no lag whatsoever. Literally, I almost never ever experience lag when recording with it. But for a 30 second video it's like 100 MB.

Camtasia Studio is not Camstudio by the way. Camtasia is like $400.
