So I am curious as to some peoples plans and takes on what they will do when shit hits the fan (which means there is no order/government to take care of people)
use this web site to show us a rough generalization your loadout
http://innawoods.net/
Image
my loadout is 6 mags of 5.56 30 rounders and two mags of 1911 ammo
the will be supported by a bandoleer (like the black hack one)
I would have a back pack with a gun cleaning kit ,food, map gps compass,
I will have packs of cigs those are for bartering
under all of that I would wear olive drab with a Keffiyeh and bandanna (to keep my hair out of my eyes)
total weight 21.7 kgs
my plan would be to stay low and barter for what ever I need (as well as NOT picking fights)
all round it would be : do what I need to, nothing else

First of all I think we should generalize what the exact situation is. Causes could range from zombie apcalypses to financial turmoil, EMP to agricultural destruction.

This game was ALOT of fun, I spent over 1 and 1/2 hours making cool stuff, this is my final loadout:
Image
Crossbow for hunting and retrieving, C4 with remote detonators for blowing up anything of everything, kukri for melee and slashing my way outa anything, OP pistol in case of direct opposition, Amphetamine for... Well everything, sleeping gear and some other stuff, and a cool ghillie suit to go with, with plate armor so I can live through anything.

I don't think the point is to stuff as much weapons and armor on yourself as possible. What deathslayer listed there is definitely not 'just the essentials'.
Check your weight in that screen, it's probably 50 kg of stuff or something. Even if you would be able to drag all of it with you, you'd need a lot of food and sleep to make up for the effort. And when some gang on Humvees is driving after your ass you'll just throw it away and run. That in turn decreases your survival chances. Depends on the situation of course (zombies, aliens, just general anarchy, etc).

You definitely have a point. I'll make a new one, this time considering what you have said..

Alright so, M4 Carbine + Aimpoint & Foregrip for close-med range combat. The MP7 is a PDW so why not, it's actually light & it's for tight shenanigans. Alot of explosives/counter explosives cuz i liek the sound of BOOM. Some survival stuff (supposedly related to a nuclear winter) glow stix for the night & searching out caves, a camera to scout enemy territories (pls dnt say far cry) a tent if there isn't anything to take shelter in. Basic meds, flask of spirits, claymores so I can get sum sleep undisturbed and an axe cuz I like to chop/hunt/execute my food/prey/enemies.

Total weight : 34.112kg

I'm sorry but IMO most of you are just taking a load of bullshit that you won't need with you. I can't access the site right now but later I'll make my own.
I actually think Fleischy's loadout is the best around here, but he went a little overboard on knifes eh.
Ozone's also very good, although I wouldn't take a full-on assault rifle. That's just asking for people to shoot you on sight in an anarchic environment.

Ok, I'm here again. This is the loadout:
Image
Total weight: 7.14 kilograms in the screen, but the PA3 was not counted. I suppose it weights some 2.5 kilos, so make that around 9.5kg, +0.125 from bandages, +0.33 from cola can = ~10kg.
Franchi PA3/225: The big gun, for close quarters combat. I'm hoping on not needing this, as it should serve as a last resort against hostile punks. Most of my human interaction should ideally be trading with friendly settlements. The one I'd use most would be the Colt M1908, a lightweight, short pistol. I'm also taking ammo for both: A box of shotgun rounds for the Franchi and two small boxes of .25 for the M1908.
Urban vest, bonnet and gas mask would be the rags over my body. I don't suppose the gas mask would have much use, but it also has the intimidation factor.
A couple of bags, water, a pot, a multi-tool, phone(to communicate with other survivours) and ropes, besides a small knife. Those are the general utilities. Also, a battery pack, to keep everything running.
Passport and money. It is unlikely that there would be a complete collapse of government, and quite a lot of settlements will likely continue accepting old-world money.
Flashlight/glowstick, matches, a spare gas mask filter, binos, wristwatch and compass: More general utilities for surviving while alone and finding other people.
A book for keeping notes. Will serve to help keep myself sane, remember who I am and why I'm here.
MRE and beef jerky serve as food, I also put a cola can but I accidentally removed and just noticed now. Colas have a high content of sugar, so they would serve to give me an energy boost, and besides, it is not going to be fat or sugar that is going to take me down. A bullet to the neck is more likely.
And that is why I'm taking antibiotics and painkillers. Forgot to add bandages, tho.
Now that I have taken another look at it, I could have thrown away the middle bag. It's contents would easily fit into the backpack.
