"'Old School' Mapping Competition"

On the 1.0 forums they're having an 'Old School' mapping "contest". I posted my views there but it was deleted by Sally as the correct views are shunned out of that community. Here's my original post:

"I don't really see this as a mapping competition but really a "lets get everyone from the old forums who made maps and have them give us their maps so we can use them in 1.0" which doesn't really roll with me. If you guys are going to cut off custom maps from 1.0 you should really make the maps yourself. Asking us to give you our maps after being thrown under the bus by getting our mods, custom maps, and servers removed and just expecting us to blatantly pass them over to you sounds pretty ignorant altogether. It also gives me the impression that your own maps aren't very good and you want our maps because you like them better, but I'm sure no one wants to admit that."

Sally later PM'ed me saying:

"It was not at all constructive, and bordering flaming.

We have plenty of maps. This just gives the community the chance to recognise one of the existing player made maps, and get it into the full game as an official map for everyone to enjoy. It's completely optional if they don't want this for their map then that's fine.

This sort of destructive rant doesn't help anyone. If you want to voice an opinion or concern try and do it in a less confrontational way. I would be happy to alleviate your concerns."

IMO this "contest" is total BS. I strongly suggest people not to submit their maps as this currently looks like a Sham to easily gather the good maps without making them.

Wow... You've got a valid and important point, and they say it's not constructive? They just keep getting worse... And Sniped thought that people in this community might also want to be part of their "community". Thanks for pointing that thread out - I barely look at them now, with all the post editing/deleting they've been doing.

Woah, they seem to have a habit of dodging logical flaws in their system and sweeping it under the carpet before it undermines their devious plans. Stealing maps and removing map making features then taking credit for it is lower then low.

Well they aren't really stealing. We are giving it to them.

I kind of regret submitting mine now. I feel they belong wit the BaS community now and not Aos v1.0

No worries we will have a place for your maps, the customize section is coming together nicely. And you can always make new maps that are better than they could ever make.

I plan on submitting "Gen2", a classicgen map that used to run on shams. While they still get to change the map however they want, I think it's the best way to ensure classicgen makes it into the game, 1 way or another.

And this is the main problem! If we give our maps to them we are giving them the rights to use them, too -.-
