For those who tolerate any kind of genres:
Love Live! School Idol Project
http://myanimelist.net/anime/15051/Love ... ol_Project
Synopsis:
Otonokizaka High School stands on the border of three cities: Akihabara—a pop culture mecca that's evolving by the minute; Kanda—a conservative, cultured city where history and tradition reign supreme; and Jinbo—a quiet area reserved for a more mature, sophisticated population. Amidst this culture clash, the school now faces closure due to the enrollment of fewer and fewer students.
With the school planning to close within three years, nine female students come together with one thing in mind—form a pop idol group to revive the school's popularity and keep it from shutting down. "In order to protect our beloved school, there's only one thing we can do... become pop stars!"
Their goal is simple: Become an overnight sensation and use their nationwide media exposure to promote their school and bring in a wave of new students to the ailing area. A simple but solid plan, they figure. Naturally, they're nervous and wonder if this plan can really succeed, but for better or worse their new journey has begun...
"All we can ask for is just a tiny bit of support from you. We truly believe that with your help, we can change the world around us. We will make our dreams come true!"
(Maki<3)
Non Non Biyori
http://myanimelist.net/anime/17549/Non_Non_Biyori
Synopsis:
Elementary school student Hotaru Ichijou has moved with her parents from Tokyo to the middle of the country. Now she must adapt to her new school, where there are a total of 5 students in the same class who range through elementary and middle school ages. Join their everyday adventures in the countryside.
(Before Barakamon, there was Non Non Biyori!)
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu!(Baka and Test - Summon the Beast!)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/6347/Baka_ ... Shoukanjuu
Synopsis:
The story centers around Akihisa Yoshii, the "baka" of the title. His academy rigidly divides up the student body into classes based on the results of tests. The prodigies are in the A class with reclining seats complete with air conditioning, but Akihisa is in F class, the lowest rung of the school ladder which is furnished only with low, decrepit tables and worn-out straw tatami mats. A girl named Mizuki Himeji is actually one of the smartest girls in Akihisa's sophomore year, but she had a fever on test day and was pigeonholed into the F class. Besides Mizuki (who Akihisa secretly adores), the F class also has Yuuji Sakamoto, the class president who has been Akihisa's friend and partner-in-crime since the freshman year.
The school happens to have developed experiments to summon fantasy creatures, and Akihisa decides to rally F class to take on the higher-tiered classes and seize their perks. The F class uses the summoned creatures in an all-out battle for school supremacy.
(One of the better Romance Comedies out there~)
AKB0048 (First Stage/Next Stage)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/12149/AKB0048_First_Stage
Synopsis(First Stage): In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war breaks out over interplanetary travel tech. The environment is pretty much destroyed so mankind leaves Earth, settling on other planets, and starts Star Calendar 00.
Entertainment and songs become heavily regulated and eventually banned on several planets due to their power to move people, but a brave idol group puts on guerrilla performances in these systems in the name of a famous act from earlier times that sang to Earth's bitter end, AKB48. Famous throughout the galaxy, the group's name is AKB0048.
This story centers around a group of girls from various planets, some where entertainment is banned and some, where it is not, striving to become great idols and join AKB0048.
Therefore, they participate in the entrance exam and eventually become undergraduates, aiming to someday succeed the current members of the group.
(Another Idol anime~ Though this one's more serious.)
(P.S: Same director as the Macross series!)

Speaking of music anime here's some I found entertaining.
Legend of Black Heave:
Legend of Black Heave:
Oji Tanaka has a wife, a child and a mundane job as a salary man in Tokyo's modern society. But life wasn't dull for him to begin with; 15 years ago, he was known as "Gabriel", leader of a short-lived heavy metal band called Black Heaven. Oji's life gets a sudden change in direction when he is invited by a mysterious blonde woman named Layla to pick up his Gibson Flying V and once again display his "legendary" guitar skills, not knowing that his music generates power for a massive weapon in an intergalactic war.
Bakumatsu Rock:
The story is set in the Bakumatsu era, at the end of the shoguns' rule over Japan in the middle of the 19th century. The Tokugawa shogunate uses the brainwashing Heaven's Songs by the top idols in Shinsengumi to subjugate the country and its people. In this Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the Heaven's Songs is a capital offense. Sakamoto Ryouma and the other rockers rise up and change the world with rock 'n' roll for freedom and justice.

I have started watching 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya'. I don't usually watch slice of life or comedy shows but the characters are all just so interesting. It also is pretty realistic at times. I also started watching 'cowboy bebop'. Its good but I don't think it lives up to the height, I am only on episode 5/6 so it could just be a slow start.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and the second season
After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem. Based on the amateur mystery game by 07th Expansion, the story is told in a series of different scenarios.

I'm recommending a not really known anime series Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, a famous anime series Monster, a pretty weird anime Ergo Proxy and Ghost in the shell, a masterpiece imo.
Edit: Monster is a masterpiece too.

What do you guys think of SAO II so far? - Jdrew's topic
It's a theme that should be discussed here and I wanted to give my opinion either way.
The ggo anime is being soooooooooooooo sloooooooooooooww, I started watching this season because I have too much free time and first season was E-.
This time the season is being so poor, so slow, so off-topic, this is a romance anime without any romance after half of 1st season with kirito looking for asuna, characters are poor and after the first trailer I could tell how the anime is going to end.
I wanted to know if this is author's fault or producer's, after reading a few chapters of the light novel I can say it's the producer and capitalism fault (They are probably going so slow to have a GGO season 3) It's a light novel ffs.
It's lame how a lot of animes these days try to justify the lack of plot with incredible action scenes.
PS: I don't get how are you able to dislike cult anime movies and love this -_-". I have a bunch of free time, ok
