I have Windows 7, and it works great. I've heard Linux was cool, and maybe it is. I have never had it yet, and probably won't, since W7 is working fine for me. And I think W7 will be the main PC OS for a while yet.

Linux certainly is a gaming platform, but it won't be the gaming platform for quite some time. I think we can expect to see a lot more indie developers developing more platform independent games from here on in though due to the discontinuation of Microsoft's proprietary game framework, XNA. I've seen a lot of people who like XNA moving over to Monogame after Microsoft announced that development would end and Monogame is of course, much more flexible for developers who want to port.

Time will tell.

The Alienware x51 now has Ubuntu as an option for Main OS.

Linux is starting to get some traction in the PC manufacturing business. Though one PC model is far from the majority.
